Voter Registration Deadlines--REAL SOON |
I think it's time to remind newbies as well as forgetful DU members that voter registration deadlines are coming up soon (I think it's about October 6th). For those of us who want to do our bit in turning Texas bluer and frustrating the Dead Elephant Party, it's time to check our registrations, encourage our neighbors to do likewise, and give the Gopsters one of the biggest surprises they've had since Bill Clinton beat George HW Bush nationwide in 1992.

1. People can become deputized voter registrars for their counties, also! |
Then (up til Oct 5th) they can do neighborhood blockwalks and register people to vote on the spot! Once the application is filled out, a registrar has to get it to the county election office within like 5 days (least that is the deadline in my county). This lets you catch alot of people who aren't registered or may need to get a card with an updated address and they don't have to worry about the footwork to get it to the county office. We also carry the ones that people can mail in themselves in case they don't feel comfortable filling out the application and handing over to the registrar walking door to door but I can tell you that most all the people we visited were fine with filling out the application and giving it back to us. The only catch is that it is a NONpartisan blockwalk so you don't go around wearing any Obamagear...since you are doing this voter registration as a representative of the county. But if you know your county and what the demographics are, it is pretty safe to know where you will get Obama voters!!
