We've always suspected the Tax Assessor/Voter Registrar in Harris Paul Bettencourt to be a vote purger type of guy. He's one of those always railing about voter fraud (i.e. code words for Democratic voters).
So the latest report from Harris on Oct 17th had this little nugget in the story.
Houston Chronicle 10/17/08Some who wish to cast ballots early may have to fill out forms or wait days(snip)
Some missed deadlineMany Harris County residents may not realize, until they try to vote, that their registrations were submitted or mailed too late for the Oct. 6 deadline.
About 10,000 such registrations will be added to the rolls for future elections, Bettencourt said, but those voters will be unqualified to vote in the Nov. 4 election for president, Congress, county officers and other government positions.
Me, I'm skeptical about 10,000 putting voter registration cards in the mail the final weekend of registration but somehow they didn't make it by the Monday midnight deadline. I would like to see the postmarks on those cards.
10,000 votes can certainly swing an election in Harris.
:grr:
