I remember meeting her and her wonderful daughters at an anti-war rally at City Hall. She bought some of my old furniture when I relocated.

I'm just stunned. I thought she was doing better...

6. Memorial service in Dripping Springs
this Saturday, according to the link in GOPisE's OP.

Longhorn's postings were always full of grace. I regret not meeting her. R.I.P.

11. Lisa that's a great thought
Many fine ladies from Texas are there to welcome Kendra. There's Barbara Jordon, Ann Richards and Molly Ivins just to name a few. Kendra will be surrounded by some spirited women just like her.

12. And my mom too.
I have always said that my mom chose her check-out date because she couldn't bear to see Bush inaugurated. She died on January 18, 2001. Lifelong, die hard Democrat. She loved Ann Richards and wanted her to run for President.

14. Kicking this for Kendra for tomorrow
I won't be able to attend her service but I do want to take time to remember her. I only met Kendra once. David posted it in the OP. It was at a protest rally at City Hall. And it was David who introduced us all. It was a brief meeting but she was really nice. Every time I'd send her a PM about one thread or another and ask her to give me a K&R - never fail Kendra always came through.

I sent her a PM around Jan. 3rd inviting her to a dinner with some Austin DUers who were getting together with WolverineDG. dg was going to be visiting on the Jan 13th. She said she was going to Chicago for a treatment and I wished her well.

I'd love to go and I appreciate you thinking of me but I will be in Chicago at the Cancer Treatment Center of America all week. I'm hoping to find better care than I'm getting here.

I hope y'all have a great time!

Thanks again!

Kendra

You will always be remembered here Kendra. Say hello to those feisty Texas women you're hanging around with now, for all of us.

15. I just got back from the memorial
It was extremely well attended, she had many friends in real life and on line. I did not see anyone else from DU, but there were so many people there with more coming and going that I could easily have missed them.

I got to meet her husband, two of her three daughters and her son. Her son was about 90% of the way deployed to Iraq when the call came in. He did manage to get back to Austin and spend one last evening with her. They are a beautiful family who are obviously very close to each other. There are obviously many happy memories in the home just as there are many happy memories of Longhorn on DU.

While there, I read the book of messages from people on DU. Just as the hundreds of people from DU who shared stories, memories and well wishes, other people coming from all aspects of her life, each with a wonderful story to share. I listened to a few and shared a few that I was aware of. While I got to know Kendra quite a bit while moderating with her on DU and knew her to be a very kind and caring individual, my heart was glad to get a glimpse into her personal life to see she had equally touched many other people the same way.

She was a remarkable woman who left a lot of good memories which is probably the best you can hope for. I am sure at this time she is now talking with Ann Richards about Molly Ivin's latest column and still Kickin' and Stompin'!

I was wondering about this today. It was very sweet of you to report back to all of us who live so far away and could not attend.

I love the idea of Longhorn being shown around by Molly and Ann!

No surprise that Kendra had many friends in the real world as in the virtual DU world. She was a wonderful sweet soul.

Longhorn's voice is certainly missed here. I would have liked to attend the memorial, but my car wouldn't make the 4 hour journey so I really appreciate your update.
