Please DU this Texas poll
I cross-posted this in GD too.

Today, the Conroe Courier is conducting an online poll regarding President Obama's speech next Tuesday to American students. The speech is about the importance of education. To date, only 2 of Montgomery County School Systems (Conroe & Magnolia) have agreed to broadcast his speech. The Courier internet site to vote is:

http://www.hcnonline.com/conroe_courier/front /

Thank you very much.

1. Done
Right now it's 54-46 in favor.

We wouldn't even be having this public discussion if that bushie was in office. No one would even pipe up. He's the President of the United States! How is not showing his speech not a political decision! :grr:

2. Exactly
This is nothing but encouraging divisiveness, fearmongering and racism (in my county, racism is big). Heaven forbid if these morons would want their children to hear ANY of the following:

"During this special address, the president will speak directly to the nation’s children and youth about persisting and succeeding in school. The president will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning."

"The U.S. Department of Education encourages students of all ages, teachers, and administrators to participate in this historic moment by watching the president deliver the address, which will be broadcast live on the White House Web site (http://www.whitehouse.gov/live/) and on C-SPAN at 12:00 p.m., ET. We also encourage educators to use this moment to help students get focused and inspired to begin the new academic year. The Department of Education offers educators a menu of classroom activities—created by its teachers-in-residence, the Teaching Ambassador Fellows—to help engage students in the address and stimulate classroom discussions about the importance of education."

Heck even Poppy got in on it. Maybe someone should ask Poppy if a President should be allowed to speak to school children?

18. Poll appears to have been removed. Well.
Perhaps after they read the actual speech, they had a moment of clarity or at least embarrassment?
