Alvarado explains bounced check from 2006 race
Emphasis in itals and bold is mine, for editorial purpose:

http://startelegram.typepad.com/politex/2009/09/alvarado-explains-bounced-check-from-2006-race.html

Democratic gubernatorial contender Felix Alvarado of Fort Worth issued a press release today to address questions about a bounced $3,750 filing fee check that forced him to withdraw as a candidate when he attempted an earlier run for governor in 2006.

"I paid the filing fee with a personal check, even though I knew that my checking account did not have that amount," said Alvarado, who lives in Fort Worth and teaches at a Dallas high school. "I honestly and sincerely thought that I could deposit the money the following morning. When I discovered that I could not, I thought of my options, borrow the money or withdraw from the race."

Alvarado said he notified the Democratic Party that he was withdrawing because the check would not clear. He said he later began getting calls from the media "about the 'bounced check' that had caused my name to be removed from the ballot.

"I accepted full responsibility for my action then as I do now," he said. Alvarado noted that he has filed again to run for governor and is prepared to "guarantee" that his name will stay on the ballot.

There's so much that is so wrong with this public statement, but let's just focus on the simple matter of maintaining a balance in one's checking account -- "borrow the money"? Why would you need to "borrow the money" if you were going to "deposit the money the following morning"?

There's more going on with this explanation than mere garden-variety ignorance, I'm afraid.

And this fellow will probably make the runoff for governor solely because of his surname.

:argh: :nuke: :banghead:

1. Why does everyone with zero chance of being elected insist on running for governor?
If I wanted to get my ass handed to me, I would be happy down ballot.

Say, has anyone announced for lieutenant governor yet?

That you, Felix?

To answer your question, NoP: no. No one rumored that I have heard.

Five for guv -- Schieffer, Friedman, Gilbert, Thompson, and Alvarado; Barbara Radnofsky for AG, and Bill Burton for GLO commish are the current sum of all declareds. edit: I overlooked Jeff Weems, running for RR commish.

No candidates yet for lt. gov, ag commish, controller, supreme court, or CCA (not technically statewide, I know). I hear rumors about Marty Akins for GLO, Nick Lampson for controller, Shane Sklar -- he challenged Ron Paul in '04, I think -- for ag commish.

Off now to judge pork ribs in Pasadena at the AFL-CIO BBQ cookoff. May run into Schieffer there; certainly will see many locals.

Were you judging in the first round of ribs at the cookoff? If so, I was in there too - hell, maybe we talked, but since they said "no campaigning," I had to keep my mouth relatively shut. The ribs were good, however. I look forward to running this race - we have some surprises in store in the railroad commissioner race, I do believe. I kind of like the public being nonbelievers right now. I'll do my convincing later.

4. Well hell
Now that I see your photo on your website, Jeff ... I recognize you as that fellow a few tables over from us. (Damn those ribs were good, weren't they?)

5. They were excellent.
Today I go up to Tyler to meet with some donors. Then hit the Smith County CLC breakfast in the morning, drive to Dallas and hit the Dallas County CLC breakfast, then the Dallas County Dem Party picnic. Time for some new tires.
