Ronnie Earle "leaning towards" running for Gov
Found on BOR, here's the original:

Former DA Earle "leaning toward" running for governor

AUSTIN - Former Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, who gained national attention with his high-profile prosecution of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, said Friday that he is "leaning toward" running for governor.

The former Democratic prosecutor would join a growing field of contenders in the 2010 Democratic primary if he decides to make the race. Among the other candidates are former U.S. Ambassador Tom Schieffer of Fort Worth, rancher Hank Gilbert of Whitehouse and author-entertainer Kinky Friedman of Austin.

In a telephone interview, Earle, 67, said he hasn't set a timetable but will probably make a decision "sooner rather than later."

If he jumps I know who I'm backing!

1. I love Ronnie
But I think Hank Gilbert is probably better known now. He's run for statewide office and made some good connections with his work against toll roads.

Color me skeptical, but I don't believe Ronnie will run.

2. If he does run
the left/progressive vote gets split and we wind up with Schieffer or Kinky or Alvarado (or two of those three in a runoff).

3. There is that. I like them both bunches and it would be a tough decision
of who to back because of what Sonia said in her post. The idea of Kinky or Scheiffer getting more votes because of two good Dems entering the race is enough to give me a stomach ache. :argh:
