Honestly, Texans...how's it going to turn out?
Tonight on Capitol Gang (MSNBC), the best all of the pundits predictions were Republicans holding 5 seats and Democrats gaining 1 seat.

So...what's your feel on it? Especiall with the re-districting?

BTW, one of the pundits even had the gall to say that DeLay was brilliant to correct the injustice of Democratic stronghold to Republicand favared districts. :wtf: To me, if you're "correcting and injustice" it should be equal all sides vs. swinging it wholly in favor of the Republicans. (Must be that liberal thing in me. LOL!)

1. I think Delay is fighting for his life
Will have to see what becomes of the election after the USSC ruling on the redistricting.. no telling what will happen out of that.

9. Talked to an ex-Republican yesterday
She thinks Tom DeLay has brain damage from toxic products he used as an exterminator. She was dead serious; this woman does organic gardening, wants clean air and water, and doesn't understand how the Republican party turned so hostile towards the environment. She had a few choice words for these so-called "Christians" who have taken over the party.

There are probably a lot more like her out there.

3. Let's see, here's what I know:
Morrison is within 5 points of DeLay last I heard. When the Bugman comes and canvasses in his own damn district and runs attack ads against a challenger you know he's smelling trouble.

Frost vs. Sessions: a real squeaker. Could go either way, the Dallas Republican Snooze endorsement should help.

Edwards vs. Wolghemuth (or however she spells it) -- another one of the Texas Five targeted in the redistricting -- last I heard, Edwards was up 10. Good news for us.

Not sure about the rest of the Texas Five... anyone else?

5. Oh man...I'm saying prayers and
sending good vibes! 5 points? Fantabulous!!!!

I would SOOOO MUCH LOVE to see DeLay go DOWN!

On my homefront, next door, I'd like to see some polls on Zamora taking Hastert down. Hell, I'd take Hastert and Biggert going down even over Delay! Sorry...getting a little selfish.

7. Taking Delay out is every Liberal's dream
Imagine the leadership vaccuum in the Republican House if he was thrown out by the voters.

16. DeLay is not a shoe in this year
but this is powerful Republican territory and it will be hard to kick him out. That said, there are some hopeful signs:

In 2002, every day for two weeks before the election I received phone calls from the Delay campaign, plus at lease a half a dozen big high dollar glossy mailouts (of course disguised as "official business" so they were paid for by the tax payer rather than by Delay). Billboards for Delay were everywhere. But not a single call or mailout from the opposition.

This year, no mailouts, no calls, fewer signs, no billboards on the major highways. But.... a couple of mailouts by Richard Morrison and one phone call. As a matter of fact when I got the call I thought it was from the Delay campaign because the first thing they asked was "will you be supporting Tom Delay". When I replied "not at all" I was surprised by the response of "Well very good. We need you to help get the word out to your friends and nieghbors". A lot more Kerry/Edwards and Richard Morrison yard signs.

Anything is possible. Texans should never be taken for granted by either party. I will say if Bush and Delay win, it will definitely not be a blowout and it will be close enough to both scare the repugs and (hopefully) invigorate the Dems.

4. Stenholm vs. Neugebauer
Another one of the Texas Five .... a good article in NY times.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/18/politics/campaign/18texas.html

Per that article, this one's still a squeaker. But here's an article that'll warm your heart:

Dying man's last act: Voted for Stenholm.

6. You're correct...warmed my heart
on the second one. And made me cry, too. Emotional and heartwrenching. Thank God for people like him!

Sometimes, this election (locally and nationally) just gets to me on so many levels.

8. What the candidates are saying
I've been to a lot of rallies by candidates in state races & some national who say people are telling them "I usually vote Republican, but not this time."

(Read my account of the Texas Truth Convention at my blog Anybody But Bush, Yall)

My most optimistic prediction--Texas turns blue on November 2.

My most pessimistic prediction--the electoral votes go for Bush, but enough county-by-county go Democratic to shake the confidence of the Republican party.

For sure, DeLay will go down, either defeated by Richard Morrison, by being indicted on ethics charges, or a combination of the two.

13. "ya know"
"KERRY IN A LANDSLIDE!!! KERRY CARRIES TEXAS!!!"

I'm confused. Is this Democratic Underground, or Delusional Underground? The latest poll I say had Kerry at 37% in Texas.

17. I'd be supprised
if Kerry only pulls 37% in Texas. I won't be so optimistic to believe Kerry will win Texas, but I think it is well within the possibility to see a significantly smaller point spread than we saw in 2000.

I believe the only reason the vote has been so lopsided in recent years is because Dems are staying away from the polls convinced that they don't have a chance, so why vote. I have heard that sentiment from several people and believe it is a wide spread belief. Maybe enough people are getting pissed that they will vote.

Unfortunately, the fact that the candidates only seem interested in swing states means that Bush's lies go unchallenged here.

10. Lampson (D) vs. Poe
another one of the Texas Five:

From the Austin American Statesman:

"Democratic polls show Poe's lead slipping from 9 percentage points in June to 4 points, or within the poll's margin of error.

"Probably a year ago I wouldn't have given myself a whole lot of hope in this campaign," Lampson said. "Today, we are at least tied."

Poe also rates the race a tossup."

Sorry, don't have link to full story, it was emailed to me.

12. I don't know how it's going to turn out, but I'll say this....
Well, hell, obviously Bush is going to win Texas.

But if it makes y'all feel better, I didn't vote for him, and a few years ago I was a Republican party precinct chairman.

And I probably would have voted for a Republican for Congress, but the redistricting crap pissed me off enough to change my vote. (I'm in Nick Lampson's district, and God willing, it'll stay that way.) I chose to live in Southeast Texas, not Houston, and I resent them trying to give our seat in Congress to the Woodlands. Rotten rat bastards.
