DailyKOS: Making Life Hard for DeLay
Not in his district, but since that THUG made it tough all over Texas (and I still remember seeing him on local tv coming down to help out during, lessee, which one of the expensive special sessions?) hope any of you in his district read this and can help out the underdog to defeat that POS.

1. Delay is hated by a number of people here in Houston
The Chronicle has endorsed his last opponent. One of the local weekly has done a number of articles on Delay's lies in civil depositions in cases where the testimony really mattered. The fact that Delay had the gall to push the impeachment farce on President Clinton when Delay was actually far more guilty of the same offense is galling.

DeLay is one of the main reasons why Houston is so far behind Dallas in mass transit and rail. There are a number of people who hate Delay. Thanks for the link. I may go to the fundraiser for Morrison on Friday.

2. DeLay is hated by people all over the state
In case you've managed to miss all the previous times I've said this I particularly loathe Bug Boy for redistricting me out of Lloyd Doggett's and into Lamar Smith's district. I've contributed to Morriaon and will do so again.

3. Anything that makes Delay's life hard
would be most welcome! His combination with Craddick out here in West Texas put Randy Nuggetbutter (or whatever the hell his name is), whose response to my request for extending the 911 hearings a while back was that it would be "foolish" (his word) to do anything *Bush didn't want to do!

Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 03:06 PM by Richardo
Let's even that up a bit, DUers (I did!).

This is a national race.

Even those of you from outside Texas will benefit with the eviction of the pissant extortionist as House Majority Leader.

8. Morrison is having a fundraiser Thursday evening, by invitation.
It's being given by the Krist Law Firm. Hopefully the lawyers will come through for one of their own they way they did for Edwards here in Texas!

In addition, word is that Howard Dean will be lending a hand to Richard as well.

In the meantime, every little bit counts!!! I sent what I could, and will do so again! I don't care where in the country you are!!! Please donate! This is a NATIONAL race!

14. Ha Ha! I did it!
YAY ME!

(Sorry....my humility went out the window for a sec...)

When Dean was here in Dallas in December, people were asking him about his assistance to the congressman in Iowa he was asking Deaniacs to help out. They wanted to know if he was going to make it a regular thing.

I raised my hand and said we could REALLY use some help in Houston for Richard Morrison to get Tom DeLay out.

He thought for a sec and then said, "I think I'll have to come down in person for that one!" and got a round of applause.

Thankyou.Thankyouverymuch.

Good to "see" you again. It's Susan - we met at the first fundraiser.

The Fort Bend event was canceled this morning because we're flooding. Rats!

It's good to see that you're still as active as ever!

10. Way to go KOS
I agree with earlier poster let's terminate DeLay. He is more than vulnerable, we can win this thing with a little effort. The minimum we can each do is kick in $10. This is one of the most important races we have in Texas. We must get rid of this piece of shit exterminator.

Go Morrison Go!

11. Remember when the re-pube Helms threatened Clinton's life
if he went on an army base? You can bet the rent if that SOB Delay was to show his face in any part of what used to be District 17 (Stenholm's old district)he would be in deep sh__. It doesn't matter-- Democrat or Re-pube-- everybody out here hates him and his bitch Perry/Craddick! Coleman County has a Dem club called ColeCoJackasses and they all made contributions to Morrison.

Tom DeLay's Ethics Violations
By Jackson Thoreau
Nov 30, 2003

Printer Friendly Page

Petition signed by 2,200 Americans demanding the expulsion of U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay presented to House Ethics Committee members by Jackson Thoreau.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A Texas resident presented a petition on Friday to the two top Congress members of the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct related to the behavior of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land.

Some 2,200 Americans - including some fellow Republicans fed up with DeLay's tactics - have signed a petition requesting that DeLay be expelled from the House of Representatives for misconduct and violation of House rules, especially the first rule of the House Code of Ethics.

That first rule states, "A member, officer, or employee of the House of Representatives shall conduct himself at all times in a manner which shall reflect creditably on the House of Representatives."

"Tom DeLay has not behaved in a manner that 'reflects creditably' on the House or on our country," said Jackson Thoreau, 44, a freelance writer who wrote the petition and presented it to aides to the House committee members.

"He led the partisan power grab in Texas this year to gain more Republican seats through redistricting eight years before the state was scheduled to do so. That process forced Texans to waste millions while healthcare, education and other needs went unmet. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to DeLay's pattern of abuses and disgraceful conduct."

Other examples of DeLay's abuses in the petition include:

=> DeLay obstructed justice for low-paid sweatshop workers on the island of Saipan by taking large campaign contributions from Saipan's chief lobbyist and blocking any Congressional investigation of the appalling conditions there.

=> DeLay obstructed justice by lying to the FBI when he charged that the reporter who broke the Henry Hyde adultery story in the 1990s had been working with the White House to expose Hyde.

=> During a deposition for a lawsuit filed by a former business partner in the pest company in 1994, DeLay lied that he had not been an officer of the company for two or three years. On congressional financial disclosure forms filed in 1995, he listed himself as chairman of the company's board of directors.

=> In 1997, DeLay actually shoved Rep. David Obey and called him a "chicken shit" on the House floor. That same year, DeLay tried to impeach federal judges he didn't like.

=> In 1998, DeLay said that people with "foreign-sounding names" probably aren't Americans.

Even fellow Republicans have signed the petition asking that DeLay be removed from office, much like former U.S. Rep. James Traficant was in 2002. For example, Vicki Hill of Sugar Land, Tx., wrote: "Thank God someone else thinks the same thing - he makes me ashamed to be a Republican."

And Mark O. Hammontree of Austin wrote, "I will switch to DEM from REP over redistricting!"

The petition and signatures can be seen on the Internet at http://www.petitiononline.com/tdl0000/petition.html.

Thoreau gave copies of the petition, as well as examples of the signatures, to the offices of Rep. Joel Hefley, chairman of the House Standards committee, and Rep. Alan B. Mollohan, ranking minority member of that committee. He asked that the committee, which starts the process of expulsion, open an investigation into DeLay's abuses.

Thoreau also distributed copies of the petition to other politicians on that committee, to DeLay himself, and to media members in the National Press Building and other places.

24. Something added this time
One of the things that will make this race different is the entry of an “Independent” candidate who ran against DeLay in the Republican Party two years ago. He garnered about 25% of the vote. The deadline is May 15th and he has the signatures he needs already. His name is Michael Fjetland, http://www.fjetlandforfairelections.org/

He will pull votes from DeLay, not Morrison. His votes will be those painfully Republican people who couldn’t vote for a Democrat even if it was their own mother, but detest DeLay. So, having an Independent in the race works to Morrison’s favor.

Also working in his favor are active county clubs in all the counties involved. We’ve never had that before.

Brazoria County Morrison Volunteer checking in. Its been a great week for the campaign. We had an energized Senate District meeting this morning. Tomorrow we will host a Richard Morrison table at the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Alvin.

I encourage everyone inside and outside the district to get engaged with this race. We are in a tough fight, but it may be the most important political fight in the country.

I contributed my $100 towards the $20,000 goal for the week today. Keep it coming, come November we will SHOCK THE WORLD!!!

I'm a friend of Melissa Taylor's. I keep telling her to check out DU, and I have talked to Richard Morrison and John Coby about it too. I think a guest post by Richard would go over GREAT here! Ya'll should try to talk him into it. Maybe we could arrange with the site owner to make a big deal out of it. I think we could drum up more bucks for the campaign if we made it happen!

Tom Delay's New World Order
"I Am the Government"
By JON BROWN

The story I heard goes like this: Tom DeLay lights up a stogie in a restaurant, and a waiter comes over and says, "I'm sorry, sir, but this is a government building, and no smoking is permitted." To which Mr. DeLay, House majority leader extraordinaire, if I may resort to Freedom English in honor of Tom's until now secret admiration of Gustave Flaubert, barks, "I am the government."

That got me thinking. It's interesting to learn that Tom DeLay is the government. I didn't know that. So I looked in the Constitution and didn't find any mention of him. It must be an outdated edition. All it talked about was a government of we, the people.
