Kay Hutchison 2006 (sorry its kind of long) keep reading start planning
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 07:05 PM by juliagoolia
First of all, I do not agree that we did not have a good candidate that Texans could support. We did. He was strong, and forceful with good ideas. Apparently they even convinced some DU members from TX that he was a MA Liberal and that the birth of this nation took place in some despicable unspeakable location. John Kerry presented the ideas we support such as; Health care, Education, Inventing our way out of oil dependence, Social Security, foreign policy civil and equal rights for all Americans.

These ideas are of good character. We were sideswiped by a plan Rove implemented with folks like John O'Neill, Pat Robertson, and Jerry Falwell right after the election in 2000. He was able to get the Gay marriage vote on the local ballots to bring people from the Christian Coalition/Moral Majority out to the polls in droves

Remember that many organizations published voting guides under the guise of non-partisan information to members of all of your local churches.

See below;

Constitution party which is without doubt a Christian party candidate opposed the guides.

Note; they did not include the above candidate in the voter guide. which shows that it is NOT non-partisan although they claim it is. Not only did John Kerry not participate with them in putting this together, they lied on some of his positions.

We aren’t really talking about values here, or character. We are talking about pushing religious dogma and doctrine upon the masses by talk radio, talk TV and 527 orgs non-stop for the past few years. The Moral Majority (Falwell) and the Christian Coalition (Robertson) are just a couple of them by name. Fox, well nuff said there..

This is what we are up against, and we will have to fight that with new language and talking points. We will need to use slogans like.

“Hate Radio is UNGODLY”

“Flag Worship is Idol Worship”

“Jesus was not intolerant”

God is not a Republican or a Democrat

We allowed them to define moral values. Note the line items do not recognize feeding the poor, shelter, health care or any of the things we support as moral values that we either support or oppose. Someone should maybe make up a voter guide outlining the moral values we support? WHO?

They have built a media machine that is working 24 x 7 against us and referring to us as traitors and every other kind of ugly thing you can imagine. We are called Communist John Kerry was called a traitor and a treasonous liar by talk radio. I personally can’t turn on the AM radio in my car because of this pollution, but many do turn it on, and this is what they hear.

What they have done is take moral values and twist them into a political pretzel that traps anyone who believes in free will Christianity into a corner where they are accused of supporting the murder of babies. This is what we are up against. These are the tactics they use and the method of delivery.

We have a big battle ahead to help people see that they have been pandered to, and taken advantage of not only by big business, and military defense contractors, but large tax-exempt Christian organizations.

I honestly think we need to get on the radio to give people a choice in what they listen to here locally. If anyone has any ideas on how to make that happen let get that moving too.

There will be a battle here in TX when the Senate race comes in two years and we need to be ready for it. We need a strong person to run against Kay Hutchison. We need to see what kind of MORAL programs she did not support. Like health care, like food for the poor, like wages for the workers. We need to put this lack of support for moral values into a context that people will understand it as such and make it hit home. We need to issue or someone does, some voter guides to local churches all over the state that are non-partisan but point out the MORAL VALUES that WE DECIDE are MORAL VALUES.

We need to start dissecting Kay’s voting history and put this into a moral values statement for her to defend for the next election.

Surely TX has some word-smiths and voting record investigators and otherwise (personal morals) investigators.

1. Kinky Friedman's also said he's going to run
as an independent in 2006... how do you think that will affect the race?

Hell, I might even vote for him. I think that'd be an effing hoot.

2. If he runs as an independent I won't vote for him
He needs to get serious, if he has it in him, which he probably doesn't. A great wit, probably liberal in spite of his running buddies.

3. How about one of the displaced house members -
Stenholm, for example - conservative but a loyal democrat (unlike Zell)

http://www.zazona.com/ShameH1B/Library/Politicians/Hutchison.htm
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) thinks there is a shortage of high tech workers. Even worse, she thinks the H-1B training fund should be used to graduate more technical workers to glut the labor market even worse than it already is.

No way to Kay
I've been reading the recent letters about Sen. Kay Hutchison. Proponents should be aware that, among other things, Hutchison voted against the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which would extend basic hate crimes protections to add real or preceived sexual orientation, gender and disability to the categories already covered. She also voted against the Harkin Amendment to reaffirm the Roe vs. Wade decision as creating an important constitutional right to abortion that should be maintained. Hutchison is politically savvy, and is a constant threat to progressive individuals of all political affiliations. I urge you to vote against Kay Hutchison.

13. KB may not even run for Senate
She has Presidential aspirations, and history shows Senators aren't elected Presidents, Governors are.

Rick Perry will be challenged by both KB and Carole Keeton McClelland Rylander Strayhorn (Cougar Mellencamp). If Goodhair is half as smart as I think he is, he'll run for Kay's Senate seat.

As usual, the real interesting race will be in the Democratic primary for Governor and Senator, where the various candidates for both include Chris Bell, Charlie Stenholm, Martin Frost, Jim Turner, Ron Kirk again, and surely others whose names escape me.

15. I heard that too. I hope she does.
If we can come up with a killer Dem candidate for gov. maybe we can get rid of both the hag and Goodhair that way.

As for Martin Frost, I get WHY he did it, but his TV ads disturbed the HELL out of me. "Martin Frost stood with President Bush, even when Pete Sessions wouldn't." That kind of crap. Gave me the creeps. I voted for him (straight Dem!) anyway, but he really turned me off.

19. If you lived in his district you wouldn't be so judgemental
Yes, he's conservative--he's always been pro-military, but he comes by it honestly, not like those chicken hawks who send kids to war without having served.

He considers everything carefully, & never would have voted for the war if he had know it was a lie.

Martin Frost is PRO-CHOICE, supports GAY RIGHTS, and he's from MY NEIGHBORHOOD!!! Martin Frost knows how to get things done--nuts and bolts stuff like highway interchanges, special bills (like the Amber alert); he's more conservative than I like, but I voted for him and CAMPAIGNED LIKE HELL for him to keep him working for us!

If the ads offended you, TOUGH SHIT.

18. more on Enron
Top current senators receiving Enron contributions since 1989: Kay Bailey Hutchison $99,500

http://mysite.verizon.net/vze1tvxm/thepoliticalarena/The%20Truth%20About%20Enron.htm

EXCERPT: VINSON & ELKINS and Kirkland & Ellis both provided legal advice necessary for Enron Corp. executives to allegedly orchestrate a fraudulent scheme to enrich themselves at the expense of Enron shareholders, and both were named as defendants in the shareholders' class action against those executives and their advisors in federal court in Houston

20. Kay's going to run for Gov, I hear. Also Carol Keeton Rylander Strayhorn.
But old Carol has really PO'd the RWers with her battles against Goodhair, so Kay may run away with it.

Goodhair just ain't popular, even with the Repugs. His days are numbered. I don't think the party is tooooo happy about him being caught on tape trying to wave off the State Trooper with the "Do you know who I am?" thing. It wasn't enough to effect his race against Sanchez, but the Repugs didn't like it. And Kay sees an opening.

21. Strayhorn/Gov office???
Let us keep in mind that this "grandma" tried to prevent a UU church in Denison, TX from keeping it's tax exempt status because there are/were diverse beliefs in the UU congregation and not just a single belief..she lost this battle when lawyers intervened.

http://tinyurl.com/5xpgo

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn's reputation as a watchdog for the health and education of children is summed up in a needlepoint decoration in her office: "One Ticked Off Grandma." Strayhorn may try to add another job to her resume — governor.

People are very directly asking me to run for governor, and I'm listening," said the 64-year-old Strayhorn, who regularly takes aim at Gov. Rick Perry, a fellow Republican.
Strayhorn's attacks on Perry and his policies — including state cuts to health care and the failure to devise a new method for funding public schools — routinely make headlines. She has accused Perry of being behind the Texas Legislature's efforts to strip her state agency of some of its high-profile duties.

23. We need a Democrat who will hit the GOPers on Enron.
I was so disappointed in Ron Kirk for not hitting Cornyn on all his ill gotten Enron money. Kirk also at the end started saying in news articles "I like George Bush. I might even vote for him." If I had know he would run such disappointing campaign, I would have voted for Ken Bentsen in the primaries. But one negative aspect of Bentsen is that he received a lot of money from Enron being from Houston.
