|
My fundie niece, husband and 7 kids are moving to Greenville,TX to live with 'like-minded' people. My sister said they're trying to establish a religious community. Does anybody have anymore info on what kind of a group this is.My sister is reluctant to say more. Thank you

I live near Greenville, TX. I haven't heard of any religious "cults" or anything like that, but I really wouldn't doubt it. This area is pretty weird like that and it's hard to be an agnostic liberal here. I'll see what I can find out on this for you and get back to you.

2. Not good. Try to find out more re name of community, who they may |
|
be affiliated with. I lived for 4 years in Commerce (20 miles from Greenville) while my ex and I went to school. I worked in Greenville at a couple of places and this was in 84-88. I've been back a couple of times since and it is not good. High point for the area is the A&M University in Commerce.
FSC and Rep live kinda close and the Dems and Greens are getting stronger.
There are survivalist types and mix that up with some fundie stuff, could be a bad mix. Also many, many red-necks, God Bless America and we should just nuke them all folks mixed in. I'll help you to discover more and I'm sure there are a couple of others as well that can help.

I was afraid of that!My nieces husband is a weirdo, controlfreak!Religious survivalist sounds just up his alley. Remember the Millenium scare? He was a believer and stated to close in his property, like a compound! He offered me 'sanctuary' if I signed an oath to him, agreeing to let him make all decisions over my affairs, etc.I declined, saying I didn't believe anything would happen, because I had confidence in the american industry and their greed!Anyway,I have not been allowed to their house or see the children.I still wonder what they did with all the food they had ordered? I checked out Greenvilles tourist page and it looked like Anytown,USA until I saw the listings for all those churches! I'm afraid I can't keep them from leaving, but maybe I can keep an eye on them! Also, they are followers of James Dodson!

That is one scary dude!Saw him last week on Stephanapoulos;lit into George for questioning his Christianity.I wanted to smack him(Dobson). I don't know what I can do,I just want to make sure the kids are ok.The oldest girl is 15yo and I'm afraid he's going to marry her off! It just makes me sick! Thank you so much for wanting to help.I wait until I know an address, might have to go on a road trip.

She's from there originally, and her parents are still there. They may know more.

7. There is a lot of weirdness around Greenville |
|
Saw a couple of black churches burned a few years ago as part of hate crimes. Can't remember if they caught the culprits or not.
Same with the murder of a black man who was found tied to a tree with barbed wire.
While it is improving, it's still very much scary territory.

when I was a kid there was a sign that hung across the main street downtown in Greenville that said something like...... Greenville Texas, Home of the blackest land and whitest people...

As it sounds like many places in East Texas... However, there are some areas where it has changed for the better.

I got chills just reading that. Sounds like something Greenville would go for, yeah.
Find out more if you can. Keep us informed. We'll watch that area.
I'm alllll into watching these groups nowdays. A little fundie group TRIED to take over in my burb but after getting just one of them on the school board, they've been thwarted at every turn and will continue to be. We'll get her off the board in 2006, mark my words.
You HAVE to watch your local area closely. I know that sounds paranoid, but they spring up right under your radar otherwise, and by the time you notice, they've got 18 people in office.

they need to be watched! What scares me more is all those homeschooled kids will come out into the world eventually. What can we expect?I think they will be worse than their parents, because they don't know anything else!
I will keep y'all informed. Thanks for the info.
