5. Doh!
Of course, that's 2 weeks after my lease in Austin expires. I guess I'll just have to find a reason to stay in Austin a bit longer!

15. I heard some very interesting names
talked about as possible speakers at the DFT retreat last weekend. Sorry I can't chatter too much---we were under "vegas rules"---but it will certainly be well worth attending.

17. Testimonial
I've heard a few dandy names, too, NoPasaran, and it would be inspiring to hear them speak.

On the other hand, I hope they don't distract from the teaching. I am in the process of writing a testimonial of what we accomplished here in Fort Bend County by simply following what we learned at the two Democracy for Texas sessions in Austin. The results were amazing. We increased Democratic votes by 5% in the Presidential race from 4 years ago, in Tom DeLay's home district.

DeLay only got 53% of the vote in Fort Bend, while he got 59% in Harris County. This stuff works!

The greatest thing about Howard Dean is that he learned from his mistakes and is taking what he learned to share with others in grassroots organizing. We will all be forever indebted to him for that.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to get together a group to give "scholarships" to some Texas young folks to attend. By young folks I mean in their 20's. They are suffering from this economy the most. We'd pay their registration fee and give them $50 toward a hotel to split with others. Y'all think that's a good idea?

19. That's awesome Brazosboomer
We do need that youth vote, and we need more of them to stay involved and help us reach out more to their peers. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your testimonial. I would love to read it.

21. That's a great idea, Brazosboomer
We need to get as many people trained as possible so we can be ready for 2006. I know that DFT wants to do a lot more training around the state. And you're right---this stuff really does work.

20. The Austin Motel and The San Jose Hotel are both cool
Both are on South Congress, PDittie. Austin Motel is more retro-cool. Kidney shaped pool etc. San Jose is zen, minimalist, European cool. And for coffee on S. Congress you gotta go to Jo's Coffee House. That's in between the Austin Motel and San Jose Motel. Both are only a couple of blocks from each other. Austin Motel is more reasonably priced so make you reservations early.
