Report on meeting with DalCo election chief.
Ok, Dallas peeps, here's what happened today. League of Women Voters had a really good meeting with Bruce Sherbet, Dalco election head guy.

First I want to really encourage people in the area to get involved with LWV. They have exactly the same stance as many people on this board do re: BBV. Plus they have a lot of influence and have been doing this for a while, and their nonpartisan status gives activists a better status.

Bruce has a really good understanding of elections issues. He knows all about the Motor Voter problems with voter reg. They even went through all the provisionals and even checked the DMV database to make sure that these voters got to register. We had approx 20% of provisionals count in our county.

As far as BBV, Bruce really encouraged us to get involved and get feedback to federal and state to get some kind of standardization. He seemed very aware of the "Voter Angst" around machines and agreed that something needs to be done to make all of the voters feel better. He was very careful not to take a specific position -- his point was that he would like federal or state to take a stand and then he will follow that.

I really like Bruce, he seems to want to do a good job, be really open to questions, understand our concerns, etc. I think I'm going to really throw my weight behind LWV -- they seem to really know what's going on. And, Dallas, if you're worried about stuff-- get involved locally -- the people here want to hear from you and talk to you!

1. Well The Republican Election Judge I Worked With In Early Voting
Could have cared less about the malfunctioning ES&S iVotronic touch screen machines.

Her attitude was they are electronic and incapable of errors.

2. Well You Should Have Reported His Ass To The Head Office.
You still can and should. Send Bruce his name, your name, precinct number etc. and complete incident report. Call the office & get his fax number and fax it in in writing.

Judges are fallible and sometimes fuck up. They are NOT Dalco employees or full time officials. The judge in my precinct was a ROYAL PAIN ALL day. She is NOT on staff in the office and I have addressed my concerns about her attitude with a fax to the office. Bruce says he did more training than ever before and will do even more training next time, plus get us cool new tools like a polling place laptop lookup in every precinct.

7. I met Bruce a couple of years ago at an event in Plano.
I think he's a good guy, I could be wrong. Crisp, I wish I could have been at the meeting. I'll be home soon and back in action. Bruce and the League along with the Peace Center is where I'll probably be most active. Thank you most, for all the hard work you have done, don't ever stop.

Don't forget the CrawfordPeaceHouse. www.crawfordpeacehouse.org

Much peace and love, S.
