Latino Voter Participation Forum UT Austin 11/22
Latino Voter Participation in the 2004 Election
Date: Monday, November 22, 2004
Time: 10:00 am to 3:15 pm
Location: Eidman Courtroom, UT School of Law

Description: The Texas Hispanic Journal of Law & Policy and MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) will present a symposium entitled, "Latino Participation in the 2004 Election: A Discussion of Latino Voting Strength and the Policies that Impact It." The symposium will include areas of success and progress relating to Latino voting, ways to reduce barriers that prevent minorities from voting, and the future of voting right laws and polices.

Hispanics make up the largest minority group in the nation and continue to increase in number each year. The 2004 elections saw an increase in voter participation from past years, the second highest in our nation's history. The Latino vote undoubtedly has, and will continue to have, a huge influence on elections and therefore on the laws and policies that affect our nation.

The "Symposium on Latino Voting Participation" will feature three
panels:
Panel 1: The Voting Rights Act: 10:00-11:15
Panel 2: The Help America Vote Act: 12:45-1:45
Panel 3: Ex-Felony Disenfranchisement Policies: 2:00-3:15

I'm going to this and I'll report back on the state of the state of Latino voters.

Never give up and never surrender.

Sonia
