Calling yellowdogintexas... |

Haven't seen you post in a while--hope everything is ok! I wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed A Tuna Christmas, as did the rest of my family. It was absolutely hilarious!
Is there still a plan in the works for the Tarrant County DU'ers to meet up?

4. Yeah, she had posted a suggestion for all of us meeting |
|
up sometime after the holidays, but as far as I know, there hasn't been a concrete plan set up yet. I'm sure she or someone else will post the details once it's set up...

6. Ok you Tarrant DU folks, here I am. I started a new job this |

week and have not been spending quite as much time here.
First, want to let you know that the Tarrant County Democratic Org is having a counterInaugural party on the evening of Jan 20th. It is a fundraiser to keep the rent paid on county headquarters, $20 per person.
Good opportunity to meet other Democrats, mix and mingle and find out what plans are being laid for 2006 locally. (Yes, they have already had an executive meeting)
Menu is soup (as in soup lines, depression, get it?)
Best Depression era outfit wins a prize.
If you are interested, I will post the details here, location, etc. (on edit: Tarrant County Democrat website has details) also: Tarrant County Democratic Women – Second Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. at the Care-A-Lot Inn Located at 1111 W. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth 76102 (Telephone 817-338-0215) (Southwest corner of Lancaster and Henderson, near the I-30 Henderson Exit) (See Map on Mapquest.) Please note that men are welcomed and that men may join. The only cost to attend is what you order for lunch off the menu. Any questions, contact Josie at josiemrv46@yahoo.com.
Getting together. ..I am in South FW near I20..Hulen area.
I know FrogTutor isn't too far from me; where are the rest of you? Maybe we can find a location and meet for lunch, supper, or even coffee and dessert; or a shopping excursion to Central Market..this weekend would definitely be good for me. (Any Friday or Saturday actually because my daughter works late those nights and my husband is working out of the state right now, so I am alone on the weekend a lot.)
HOEVER:
My husband will be here for a couple of weeks starting next Monday or Tuesday, so if we don't manage it this weekend, I know I will have lots of time after he goes back to Wyoming.
Are any of you going to see 42nd Street in Denton on the 29th of Jan?
I plan to go to that.
So let me know what you folks might like to do..I will be watching this group! Or PM me... we can start with figuring out the most centrally located area of town and work from there.

I will not be able to do anything this weekend because of prior commitments but the following weekend is fine. I'm unsure about the 29th because I have business travel scheduled for the end of January and sometimes it bleeds into the weekend.

8. OK, you are in NE Tarrant. |
|
Of course downtown is the most central place.
I could just pick a spot, and then if we have a good time, someone else can pick the next spot.
How does that sound to all of you?

Fundyland actually wasn't too bad this year...New Year's Eve was pretty subdued, but not as depressing as I thought it might be. My other sister-in-law (not a fundy, but voted for Bush) lost her oldest child last May (he was 24). It's been an extremely difficult year for her and her husband. Well, for all of us, but only another parent can begin to imagine the pain they have. They had vowed not to celebrate any holidays this year, but I think they were relieved that 2004 was over. That along with watching tsunami footage kind of made for a quiet evening. But, we all made a champagne toast (early, because most everyone wanted to go home early!), played some cards, ate some good food; it was nice.
How was your New Year's Eve?

11. I spent it here, with the DU. My daughter had to work and my |
|
husband was back in Wyoming. I did not feel like getting out, so hung out with the DU crowd in the Lounge for a while and read a book.
Far cry from my younger days. For about 15 years, I celebrated New Year's Eve at Mammoth Cave in Kentucky with a big crowd of my caving friends, often we would go in the cave for the "Midnight Hour" and turn off our lights and crunch wintergreen life savers so we could watch them spark in the dark. But those were my closest friends at that point in my life and the very best place to be.
When my husband is home for New Year's we either have some of his brothers or his sister over and play games, watch movies or something like that. Not big partiers here.
I know this was a rough year for your sister. You just aren't supposed to out live your kids.
Are you free this weekend? I know one of the other posters is tied up this weekend, but if we don't do it this week, I know I won't want to the next weekend as my husband will be here, and I am not sure about the weekend after that one because I don't know how long he will be staying this time. LOL he has such a long list of things he wants to do, restaurants he wants to visit, etc we will be pretty busy.
I could meetup Sat anytime, Friday night or anytime after 12;30 on Sunday...as soon as church is over.
Later!

12. Well, this weekend probably wouldn't work for me... |
|
but it doesn't matter if we have to wait a few weeks. I completely understand your situation; my dad works out of state, too! He comes home to visit for a weekend about once a month, but he was here for all the Christmas holidays. As you and my mom both know, it's a pretty strange existence. He works for Bell Helicopter, but he's out at Edwards AFB in California working for the flight test department on the Airforce version of the V-22. He really hates it, and is still trying to get transfered back to Texas until he can retire.
Anyway, whenever you can after your husband's trip home is fine with me!
I'm still working on my husband; I haven't shared with him how much time I've spent at DU, and he thinks going to meet people I've only talked to online is a little "out there". I want him to come with me if only because I wouldn't want him doing something like it without me! Well, I really just want him to understand that it's not "weird", and he might actually enjoy hanging out with some non-rednecks for a change...lol

13. Since I am not exactly sure yet when my husband will go back to |
|
Wyoming, I think I need to wait to plan a meetup until after I have that information. If he leaves on say the 22nd, I would have Sat night and Sunday afternoon.
did you know about the North Texas DU theatre outing on Jan 29 ... it is in Denton..."42nd Street" (which is a great play, by the way)
If you look around in the Texas forum you will see the posting about Jan 29
You COULD bring hubby to the Tarrant County Counter Inaugural fundraiser to keep the rent paid at headquarters, on Jan 20. I plan to bring mine if he is here, and he is looking forward to attending. It is going to be a depression soup line and the best depression era costume wins. No particular dress code, obviously. I will probably wear whatever I wore to work that day. At the door suggested donation is $20, which I can actually afford this year.
anyway have a nice weekend. I am attending a wedding tomorrow night; this couple started dating when they were in our UMYF together and the Youth Minister put them on a committee with me; in the course of many phone calls and so on, they decided they really liked each each other a lot, and have been together ever since. Out of college now and getting married. She told me that I was responsible for their getting together as a couple, due to the committee thing. I don't know if it is true, but it was a sweet thing to say. The groom's mom is a friend of mine anyway, but I am looking forward to it. It will be a big wedding; I know she is having 8 bridesmaids.
Later.

It sounds like it would be fun, too. So does the Counter Inaugural fundraiser! I'll just have to see what I can talk him into; he's not very adventurous!
Wow, that sounds like it will be quite a wedding! Have fun, and have a good weekend!
