Liberal talk invading Corpus Christi!
next week, per Randi Rhodes at the end of her show yesterday. The likely station appears to be KEYS.

Glad to see a foothold established in W's home state.

6. Very jealous!
I'd really like to be able to tune to AAR instead of the variety of cons we have on the air.

2. I know a lot of Texas lefties
and they're some of the strongest, most committed folks out there.

I'm glad to see they're getting a little backup on the airwaves.

We have AAR in at least two cities in North Carolina - Chapel Hill and here in my beloved Asheville.

Be afraid, freeps. Be very afraid.

5. Liberal radio in "the body of Christ"................
it's about time Christ returned to his roots, he's been an unwilling spokesperson for the rabid right for too long. ;)

7. Wow! Seriously?
I live there, and that would be quite something, since there is only rightwing radio right now. If this is true, that makes my week!

9. I hope this is true
One of the other stations now has a 30 local talk show called Progressive Forum (I do not think it is related to the one on Pacifica). One week they were very anti-development in regards to Padre Island. It was cool.

16. updated info
http://www.caller.com/ccct/local_news/article/0,1641,CCCT_811_3513683,00.html

One week from today, KCCT/1150-AM will become the first station in Texas to stream Air America, a New York satellite network that features left-of-center perspectives from personalities such as Al Franken, Mike Malloy, Steve Earle and Janeane Garofalo.

Air America, currently broadcast on 46 stations nationally, will replace 1150 AM's oldies format. Owned and managed by Manuel Davila, Air America Radio 1150 AM will continue to air Aviators games in the evenings.

Starting Feb. 12, 1150 AM will simulcast The Progressive Forum, John Kelley's morning talk show that airs on KBSO 94.7 FM. In about six months, director of sales and marketing Zee Zepeda plans to preempt Air America for local morning and afternoon shows. Kelley will helm the morning program; the afternoon host has not been chosen.

18. While I am happy for Corpus
I have to say that Austin would seem to be the more fertile grounds for a liberal radio network, at least for a first penetration into Texas.

But I harbor no ill will toward our Corpus DUers. Congratulations.

19. Well,
I think once the bigger cities see that this change in format is bringing in the big bucks (& it will), it might not be too long before Austin/SA/Houston/Dallas get AAR or other progressive talk.
:)

21. totally agree cloud75
South Texas is one of our blue strongholds, and we need to keep it. My family lives in the valley but I'm not familiar with potential radio stations that might carry aar. While I know we lost ground in Cameron, I also think we just didn't get our voters out. Cameron should be blue, bu$h barely won. It was something like 300 votes.

24. According to an email
I received from a friend who lives in Corpus, there are still some technical things to be straightened out before AAR goes live. They were always shooting for a late Feb. premiere. I guess someone just jumped the gun a bit.

Haven't heard anything since. bummer, because I'll be in CC tomorrow & Friday (any DUers wanna hook up? let me know by noon Thrusday because I'll be computerless until I get home). I was hoping to be able to listen to AAR w/o dragging my satellite radio stuff around.

25. That radio is vey low-powered
So my guess is that they are replacing the transmitter. I was listening to the other station 94.7 and the DJ (Pudge) was talking to an engineer and asked him if he was the one bringing AAR and the guy said yes. Then Pudge proceeded to ask him his political affiliation! The guy sort of declined to answer. IT was funny. This is the same radio station that a few years ago (3 or so), when Steve Earle's CD Jerusalem came out and he got a lot of flack for John Walker's Blues, procceded to play not one but two Steve Earle songs (although not that one) after some idiot called in and asked them to ban Earle because of that song! So they have some guts. And this radio station seems to be a real family-run organization (definitely not Clear Channel). So I hope they can make it with Air America.
