And a possible rising star within the GOP. You'd think we could get someone better than Gregoire.

1. I'm 'way over here south and east of you, not in WA
But I do get some WA news and was thinking Gregoire has been acquitting herself pretty well. Just wondering about your take on the race?

3. Gregoire is not an ideal candidate
But frankly neither is Rossi.

I suspect that voters here will hold their nose and pick Gregoire over the way too conservative Rossi.

15. I already voted for Gregoire but.....
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 10:35 AM by Cascadian
I really wished Phil Talmadge would have been the nominee. It is truly sad he became ill. He was my ideal candidate. He had some of the same views that I did. Gregoire is Locke-type Democrat but I am willing to give her a chance.

4. Gregoire is, well, better than labor hating Rossi.
And she's all we've got. So let's give her some support.

Rossi is a labor hating, free market theology fundie. A bastard through and and through and cannot be allowed to take the helm in Washington.

7. Rossi tried to shake my hand at a parade
this summer.

I literally turned my back on him and said, "I'd never vote for you in a million years Dino."

And I still find it hard to believe. God help us all if Democrats are voting for the Dino-saur. And if state employees are voting for him.... Isn't that kinda like chickens voting for Col. Sanders??

Six years ago, the state was fined a record $417,500 for improperly withholding documents from lawyers representing boys abused at the O.K. Boys Ranch group home in Olympia. A 1995 internal review ordered by Gregoire absolved her department's attorneys of any legal or ethical violations, but a King County Superior Court judge later disputed those findings.

The next year, Gregoire's office acknowledged mistakes after waiting 18 months to transfer to Snohomish County prosecutors the abuse case of Linda David, battered for years by her husband while the state was paying him to care for her. David won a $8.8 million settlement.

In 2000, Gregoire's office lost a lawsuit filed by three disabled men abused while under the state's care. Then the office missed a deadline to appeal the $18 million jury verdict. The mistake also meant the state's insurance company successfully avoided covering the judgment. And after state officials blamed a lawyer in Gregoire's office for the mistake, the lawyer won a $325,000 settlement and a new state job. Finally, an investigator for Gregoire in that case and in the David case won a $450,000 settlement in 2001 in his suit alleging Gregoire and others retaliated against him for exposing state negligence.

I recently read court documents on the last case. The AG's office clearly scapegoated the fired employee. I am afraid neither candidate is a choice I want to make...so I am leaning towars the Libertarian or Green Candidate.

13. Don't do it. Remember the 2000 national election.
I know, damage control is a bitter pill to swallow, but we have to ensure that an anti-abortion radical fundamentalist does not win in Washington. Yes, it may not be pretty - I was for Ron Sims for the reasons you name - but given the choice between someone who's not perfect and someone who will fuck us over, I'll take imperfection every time.

19. You know I felt that way about the Gorton/Cantwell race
I literally (truly literally) held my nose as I voted for Cantwell. I am not particularly proud I didn't go for the SWP candidate, but fuck. Gorton needed to have his ass thrown out of office.

20. At least Gregoire owned up to the responsibility
Unlike Rossi, who understudied for a crook, and won't divulge some of his financial dealings.

It's like last week's South Park episode. We aren't looking for a saint, we are looking for someone who will meet our needs.

11. if Rossi wins, it is because of the non-stop morning, afternoon
evening advertising that started way before the primary. Voters have been beat over the head with Rossi will bring business back to over-regulated WA state. There has been very little rebuttal to these ads. The Gregoire campaign has been just awful.

I read in the paper about some repubs who will refuse to vote or endorse Rossi as he leans way to far right, but this has not been used in the way Rossi has used that dino sheldon fellow. Also left unchallenged is the over regulated business thing. Up where i live business are opening up right and left, so what exactly is the regulation Rossi would like to overturn, perhaps the minimum wage law?

People were pissed when Gov Locke gave Boeing all those concessions for very few jobs proportionally a while back, but Rossi is getting a free slide because the media does not have the guts to ask him (and demand answers) what exact regulations must be overturned to bring back business - I am sure he thinks business should pay no taxes at all and the free market will determine salaries, because you see, business will pay you a living wage out of the goodness of their hearts.

12. The ads by the repug governors association are sickening
with that condescending guy's voice talking about Gregoire.

I was hoping for Phil Talmadge. When he could not continue his campaign, my support and primary vote went to Ron Sims. Gregoire has my vote now.

Rossi sucks. He is right wing establishment driving in reverse.

Link to Talmadge having to bow out of the race, health concerns.

14. Calling that guy's voice condescending is being too nice.....
I find pompous, snobbish ass-hole more fitting. The Gregorie campaign had better start airing more television and radio ads right now. We need to match or better the Rossi ads.

18. That voice sounds like a demon posessed psycho to me!
I'm not kidding, the fucker sounds evil. Inflicted with every ounce of hatred his party has for the people of the State of Washington, where Pukes don't win very often.

And we need to keep it that way. Another Dan Evans I could live with. But not this fucking pig. Not ever.

16. Gary Locke was a disgrace as a Democrat.
He gave Boeing that sweetheart deal at the expense of the unemployed (to which I was once a part of!) and he compromised his own platform as the "education governor" by refusing to give teachers raises and more benefits. I was none too impressed with him. In fact he may have hurt his own party as a result of his incremental and wishy-washy tenure as governor. This is why you see people like Rossi coming up and getting the support they are getting. Gregoire best better not continue being in "Locke-step" with the DLC. It's time for bold and decisive leadership.

17. Chris Gregoire is our honest candidate vs. their snake-oil salesman
We must turn out the vote against Rossi.

Chris Gregoire has led our state's battle for compensation from the Enron bilkers, and she has had to fight the Republican-controlled Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Chris Gregoire is our hope for some equitable existence in the next four years.

Rossi is a smooth-talking, substanceless, thespian. He is good, though. We need to get our act together and get our people to the polls Tuesday. It's vital we get Gregoire into our governorship.

23. Why the panic? Gregoire leads in the polls I've seen...
Granted, the race has tightened since last month, and she doesn't have the substantial lead Murray has over Nethercutt, but she's still ahead by about 4%-5%. The only way I see her losing is if the state goes to Bush...but the only way that would happen is if some as-yet-unnoticed trend was going to result in a coast-to-coast Republican landside. I don't see it happening.
