Any mailboxes broken into?

I live in an apartment building where all the mailboxes are contained within one larger metal box with a single lock on it. (Hope I described that okay!) This morning I went out to get my mail and someone had tried very very hard to break into the box. Metal twisted, peeled back. Luckily they didn't get in. It could just be an act of vandalism, but could it also be an attempt to steal absentee ballots? Anybody else have this problem? (I know, I know, I'm paranoid! but the repukes will do anything....)
