SEATTLE - Democrat John Kerry would defeat Pres. George Bush if the election were held today, according to the latest poll commissioned for KING 5 News.
The poll of 618 likely voters showed that Kerry holds a 6-point lead, down from 7 points a week ago.
Kerry is also strongest among women, 55 percent of whom said they will vote for him. It was a tie with the men polled, with 48 percent saying they would vote for Bush and 48 percent opting for Kerry.
The race for Washington governor is virtually tied up, with Democrat Christine Gregoire leading Republican Dino Rossi by 2 points. That's down from 10 points three weeks ago and 6 points last week.
