Democratic suburbs abandon Gregoire
By CHRIS McGANN AND ANGELA GALLOWAY
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTERS

Suburban counties that haven't swung Republican in more than two decades helped Dino Rossi finish ahead in Washington's suspenseful race for governor.

He won by more than 6,000 votes in Snohomish County and more than 12,000 in Pierce County -- places Democratic gubernatorial candidates have dominated in every election since 1980.

Democrat Christine Gregoire easily took populous King County by more than 150,000 votes, and led in left-leaning counties such as Thurston, Grays Harbor, Cowlitz and Whatcom. But Rossi's 31-county winning streak fell only eight short of a statewide sweep.

That was no accident. Since being elected as state Republican Party chairman four years ago, Chris Vance has been targeting what he calls the "suburban crescent" -- counties such as Pierce and Snohomish that don't share urban King County's love for all things liberal.

3. Sad, but true
All you have to do is:

1. See where the new subdivisions are going up
2. Look at the proximity of these subdivisions to new churches
3. Look at the results from those precincts

The evangelical mobilization in suburban Seattle is real. Read this week's Seattle Weekly.

We have much work to do.

2. There is e-voting in Snohomish county
so the results won't really be recounted, just (as Bev Harris said last night) - re-PRINTED.

Christine Gregoire has been absolutely vilified during the campaign. Rossi is a hard right-winger with a civilized veneer.

If the adjacent areas don't like our "liberal ways", they can stop taking our tax money for all their roads and infrastructure.

4. Fuck Sam Reed
That bastard's been pushing electro-fraud longer than anyone.

As Thurston County auditor he was beta-testing internet voting here in 1996. They didn't actually make it part of the "official" county polling system, but you were able to log on to the website and cast a "practice" ballot.

And as easy as Diebold's tabulators are to hack, can you imagine if Sam had gotten his way on that one?

I blame him for this shit. And I blame that fucking worthless piece of shit Tim Eyman for spreading his mental disease about government being "evil".

After all, why should a rich Republican bastard who lives on a fucking island care if I-5 or 405 get needed repairs which are funded by license fees?

And fuck every goddamn Californian Republican who came up here to cash in on dot-coms, real estate, or whatever else. Which probably includes Rossi himself.

10. If the media did their job these demo counties wouldn't have voted Rossi
He clearly tried to appear the moderate he wasn't. What bugged me is the Everett Herald endorsement of Rossi in their editorial page read like copy from the Rossi campaign.

The reason Rossi lost in King county was that people there knew him. On cannot write this vote off to liberal Seattle. Seattle is only one third of King county's population.

5. I watched the news tonight and apparently some
African Americans chose Rossi because Gregoire was in a sorority in college that did NOT accept AA's...not all, again, some. That's just another theory I'm assuming laying out there.

7. Why don't people research these things??
Seriously...instead of giving their vote away to someone who could give 2 shits less about them??

9. Oh, there will be a hand recount
I can pretty much guarantee that. We (the state Democrats) are already raising the money to request it.
