Anyone else getting sick of the Nethercutt ad?
The first few times I heard it, I thought it was a good political ad. Now it is just grating. That syrupy piano music, the syrupy smiles, the feel good-ness of it - gross.

I hope that the average voter is getting sick of it too.

I'm new to Seattle. Does Nethercutt stand a chance against Murray?

1. He might on my end of the state, but not in the Western side.
Which is fine with me, because I am dying to get rid of that lying motherfucker.

2. I don't think so
Western Washington is liberal, progressive, and populous. Eastern Washington is reactionary, conservative, and sparsely populated. Murray has gone to bat for Washingtonians enough that I don't think Nethercutt can unseat her--he doesn't have a broad enough base--but he'll scoop up all the votes on the Eastside.

4. not all ;)

I can state for a fact that there's at least one vote here that Mr. Nethercutt definitely won't be getting.

3. Yes!
At least it's not a negative ad, though; frankly, annoying, but harmless.

5. Maybe it is not overtly negative
but it seems to imply that his opponent (though Patty is not mentioned by name) has character problems. What a crock!

Did anyone else get this picture? or am I crazy? (I realize that the two are not mutually exclusive :) )

6. He's banking on short memory spans
Remember how he pontificated on term limits and said he'd only serve *two* terms, than leave? And there was this poll in Eastern WA...where the majority of morans surveyed thought that if Nethercutt won, he'd be Speaker of the House...so he ended up winning against the incumbent, Speaker of the House, Tom Foley. Turned out to be a big OOPS for Eastern WA because they lost the clout they needed and he was not what one would call a power representative.

I guess Nethercutt figures no one will remember these pontifications and his lackluster career in DC.

George Nethercutt, it's time to go back home to Eastern WA. You haven't done squat while you were in DC -- Please go back home and find some sagebrush to rustle....

7. Nethercutt feels that since he beat Foley he'll beat Patty Murray also.
As they say lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place.

I heard Senator Murray give a rousing speech at the Snohomish County Democratic convention Saturday. I think the repukes continue to underestimate her.

8. Effective ad that portrays
Nethercutt as someone he is not. People may end up voting for him because he is professing to have Democratic values.

Patty needs to get some ads on the air now!

10. One with the daughter also bothers me
However what I get out of it is that he only supports issues that affect his family (diabetes) or his pocketbook (adoption lawyer). There was nothing stated in that commercial that did not affect him personally. However, I am the most jaded, and politically cynical person I know, so I doubt that would be most folks reaction.

11. our reaction too
my husband and I had the same exact reaction, but hey, we are also pretty cynical!

we hope Patty Murray puts out an ad saying that apparently Nethercut is a compassionate conservative when it stands to benefit his own family, same way Bush and Cheney go out of their way to benefit their cronies with taxpayer dollars.

That is what Nethercut's ad really says.

13. Patty's campaign is gearing up now
Edited on Mon May-10-04 04:34 PM by geniph
but they're facing big corporate money in Nethercutt, so now's the time to send that $5 or $10 or $25 you were thinking about. Get those yard signs up, send Patty what you can. We canNOT afford to lose that seat. http://www.pattymurray.com.

Patty spoke at Saturday's King County convention, and she was simply wonderful. She's become a very good senator.

My hope is that Nethercutt gets arrogant and tries to continue with personal attacks against Patty. It just won't wash; she's basically still a very nice lady, and a lot of people will be made extremely uncomfortable by personal attacks on her. Nethercutt's essentially a non-entity except for the corporate money behind him, but Patty is very popular in the Puget Sound region and with women statewide. The Nethercutt people will have to tread a fine line in attacking Patty's policies without alienating female voters.

14. Haven't heard it
Is it on radio? I don't listen to commercial radio, or watch much TV, so that might have something to do with it.

Anyway, I signed up to volunteer with Patty Murray's campaign. We must hold on to that seat!
