Former first lady in town to raise money for senator's re-election bid

Sens. Hillary Clinton and Patty Murray joined forces in Seattle yesterday to promote port security and raise money for Murray's re-election campaign.

Clinton generated $400,000 at a midday luncheon and set a single-day fund-raising record for Murray before speaking at a news conference about port security at Pier 18.

With ports in Seattle and New York that are among the busiest in the nation, both women have advocated tightening seaport security.

"We have a tremendous challenge when it comes to port security," said Clinton, a Democrat from New York. "And year after year since 9/11, Patty Murray has basically led the charge to make sure that our ports got the same kind of attention as our airports. ...When you look at these big containers and you realize how much comes into our ports every single day."
