Poll question: Where would be the best place for a Wisconsin DU gathering? |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 08:10 AM by eyesroll
Let's see if trends emerge. (Feel free to comment about where you're willing to drive.)
Note that the first two are events, with dates. The rest are just general geography. This is by no means complete, and I've lumped some cities together.
As for me -- I'll be attending the state convention, and probably Fighting Bob Fest as well, but I voted Milwaukee (because I live nearby), and I'm willing to drive a bit.

Although it would be great to see a group at the State Convention in Appleton. Because my Insurance/Mortgage busines is slooooowwwwllyy getting off the ground, I'm in a financially frugal mode right now and don't spend funds without good reason......hence, trips are few and far between.
It would be really great to get our Wisconsin DUers together. There actually are enough of us to make a difference in individual campaigns and within the party structure itself.

3. We tried a Fightin' Bob Fest get together last year but ... |
|
The day was so busy and the crowds were so big, it was difficult to make a real event out of it. I think it would work if we planned for the evening after the main program is over.
The state party convention would be cool but there seems to be a number of DU'ers that are not members. Maybe we should at least display our DU stuff (t-shirts or bumper stickers) to let people put a face to fellow ranters.
We would be willing to drive for a seperate event if we can get one scheduled.

Centrally located, lots of great places to eat and drink, strongly Democratic college town, What's not to love about this place?

Stevens Point is right off the interstate so it's within a couple of hours drive from most of the state. Of course that's easy for me to say since I'm only 45 minutes away.
Not to be a party pooper or anything but I think we should consider regional get-togethers as a possiblity also. Stevens Point, thought it is in the middle of the state is still a 4 hour drive from Waukesha and Ashland. Maybe we'd be better off choosing 3 or 4 cities in different quadrants to make it easier for those at the fringes of the state. We might get a few of our neighbors from Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois to visit too.

6. Well, I voted for Eau Claire |
|
with no expectation that it would happen that way, but I really think Bobfest oughtta be on top of the list. Point or Madison would be OK too.

But my geographical location aside, I think Stenens Point would be best for travel fairness, and Madison for a good time.

11. Definitely the State Convention |
|
Dottie LeClair (8th CD candidate against Mark Green, and Outagamie County Party Chair)has all sorts of big plans for the convention. One is the fact that Appleton has the largest Flag Day parade in the country and it happens to be during the convention so she is trying to get all the Dems who want to walk in it to do so. That could be a massive amount of Dems walking and most definitely an easy lit drop for candidates in the area.
Right now the talk is Kerry will likely be at the Convention along with all the Dem candidates and elected officials. If you want to make a splash do it where the reps of the party can see it, and most definitely show your Dem Unity with all of us up here. I will be involved in both days as a Delegate, so I am there.
You should be too.
