TOWN OF TRENTON, Wis. -- The Washington County sheriff said an inexperienced driver, alcohol, speed and goofing off contributed to a five-car accident that killed five people.

The accident happened when a 16-year-old driver was speeding -- possibly as fast as 80 mph -- and he rear-ended a westbound car on state Highway 33 about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Washington County Sheriff Brian Rahn said the teenager's car then crossed the center line and collided head-on with another car.

and Newburg within the unincorporated township.
