WI activists-time to confront the Lobbyists' Legislature - October 27
Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 05:07 PM by sybylla
an e-mail I received from the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign - emphasis mine

It is time for the People's Legislature to meet the Lobbyists' Legislature. That is going to happen on Thursday, October 27.

You responded to the People's Legislature Call to Action by signing up at last month's Fighting Bob Fest to take part in a citizen demonstration at the Capitol in support of political reform that will clean up Wisconsin government and rehabilitate our democracy.

...

We hope you can be there on October 27. And we hope you can bring a friend, neighbor, co-worker, son, daughter, grandchild, sister, brother, mother, father or that friendly soul you run into in the check-out line at the grocery store. Spread the word in your community. And bring a broom on the 27th to help us drive home our message that we need to sweep the people's house clean.

Our elected officials keep saying nobody cares about political corruption and government ethics and the need for campaign finance reform. When you come to the Capitol on the 27th, slap on one of those "Hello, My Name Is..." stickers and write "NOBODY" on it so we show them how many "nobodies" in Wisconsin care deeply about the failing health of our democracy and the shameful way business is conducted in the Capitol.

Our plan is to convene at 11 a.m. We plan to have a rally on the Capitol steps at noon, a demonstration inside the building after that, and then we will ask you to visit your state legislators' offices and the governor's office to blanket them with fliers calling for a special legislative session on the political reforms supported by the People's Legislature.

We will soon have a registration form on the People's Legislature web site and will ask you to sign up in advance of October 27 so we have some idea of the size of the crowd we'll have. We'll be sending you more details in the days and weeks to come.

Today a disgraced Wisconsin state legislator pleaded guilty to felony misconduct in public office, a development that speaks volumes about how ethically pathological the Capitol has become. It is time for a top-to-bottom cleanup of the place. It is time for action. Please join us on the 27th and please help turn out others so we have a massive crowd there when the People's Legislature confronts the Lobbyists' Legislature.

Thanks for making this year's Fighting Bob Fest a big success, and thanks for your continued commitment to the People's Legislature movement.

Mike McCabe

Gee, how many legislators do you suppose will be too busy to meet with their constituents that day? :eyes:

Think a bottle of Pepto might help me find the gastral(?) fortitude to hand that flier to Zien and Suder face to face.

1. Thanks for passing this on, syb. I'd like to be there.
:hi:

The Republicons in DC went AWOL on UFPJ's Lobby Day. I took it as a good sign - they're scared.

2. Syb...I'll do this.
I have to be at work by 3:00 and my Senator and Assembly Critter are part of the good fight. But I'll do what I can. I get emails from People's Legislature...can I sign up there?

3. Yeah, you should get e-mail on this if you're getting them from PL
From the original post, it looks like they aren't ready for sign-ups yet but as soon as I get some notice of it, I'll post an update with a link here.

MadAsHell and I will be there for sure. When it gets closer, we should come up with a place near the Capitol for DUers to meet.

I know it's a weekday. It's easy for me to play hookey working for myself. Still, it would be nice to see as many people there as possible.
