Any Madtown DU'ers see Bruce Cockburn last night? |
|
Went to the Barrymore last night to hear Bruce Cockburn's solo acoustic show, promoting his new "Speechless" instrumental album. One word....WOW. I've never seen him live before, and I was blown away. Went with a guitarist friend from church, we're both of the opinion that Bruce is one of the best and most individual guitarists out there, just immense talent. He did a 12-string version of "Put It In Your Heart" that gave me goosebumps. I was really blown away by what I think is "End Of All Rivers", an instrumental piece based on delay effects...he was pulling the whole freaking universe out of his guitar!
He got some great digs at the Bush regime, hoped for indictments, and joked that the current admin members would end up as talk show pundits. He made a joke about the Karl Rove Show, musing that it would put O'Lielly out of a gig! :D
If you ever get a chance to see Bruce live, do it...he's one of the best songwriters, singers, and guitarists in the business. Some of his stuff is flat-out haunting. I had never been to the Barrymore before last night, this made a great intro to the place for me. (I don't get out enough hehehehe)
Todd in Beerbratistan, still geeked from last night
