What chance does Patrick Byrne have in tomorrows election |
|
To fill the seat vacated by Vrakas? I just spent two days phonebanking for him. Newcomer sounds pretty dirty, what with his "residence" being a vacant lot and his penchant for overreporting the success of his business and such.
Here's to hoping...

1. I phonebanked today, LC |
|
Gave myself a nice little headache in the process! But it's okay--all for the cause! Most of the people I contacted were nice. I hope he wins; they were saying that Newcomer has done almost no campaigning since the primary, and now has some allegations against him--so here's hoping.

2. Not may favorite thing, I must say. All for the cause! |

It's no fun being a telemarketer for any reason. I preferred getting the machine, so I could spew my message on it. If I got a human, I gave him/her the basics as FAST as I could, so as not to make much of a pest of myself.

3. Well, I'd rather call than canvas! |
|
I'm shy--that part was harder--to go up and ring doorbells. :scared: But I did it anyway, for JK! ;)
There was a guy in the next room doing so well--each call sounded like he was talking to an old friend. I tried to be very friendly and non-threatening, while still trying to exude some warmth. Sigh.
I like how we got to say "I'm a volunteer" right at the start, so they know we aren't selling anything. Most people were nice. :) But it was dinner-making time (4-6 p.m.) so I didn't try to take a lot of time.

the vote went up from 28% in the primary to 36% in the general election, with only 100 more voters, so that means something.

5. And Byrne was quoted in the paper as saying he mostly ran |
|
because he didn't want to see the Republican unopposed. Said he didn't want to see a one party system. He made Newcomer spend some money campaigning. Good for him. He said the increase in voters was a moral victory. If it's an improvement on how the Dems usually do, then good.
