2. Can't make it to either
Was planning on making it to the Obama rally until I saw the doors open vs. starting time - I just can't take that much time away from work since my schedule's already blocked. Ah well.

Can't make it to the fundraiser either, not paying $100+ a head for that sort of thing.

3. Not to mention that the Founder's Day event fundraises for our incredibly inept State Party
Who were absentee on support for winning candidates like Gordon Hintz in 2006 and many others across the state not in Milwaukee or Madison. Our State Party's responsibility should be to fundraise and support EVERY Democratic candidate regardless of their opponent's poll numbers. It's the only way we'll ever be competitive in every county, every district.

Although I love that when I go to the DPW Convention and they tell me how "WE" took back this seat and that seat and in all actuality the lack of support from the State Party probably meant most of those seats were won by the candidate and their local organizations alone.

I want to see Obama in Waukesha or in Milwaukee in a night setting but overpaying for a stupid Gala is not worth it. I'd rather just give money to Obama and pin my hopes on his grassroots organization.

6. You said it.
I'm still trying to figure out how the party of the average Joe and Jane, of blue collar union workers, the impoverished and the persecuted, can hold a big buck fundraising event like this in some high falutin' joint and not see the ridiculous irony of it. It's so...Republican.

Unless you fork over money for the highest ticket, you'll be stuck in the SRO section at the back of the room with the rest of the unwashed masses. Might as well stay home and send your money to the candidate of your choice.

13. No shit.
Time to start taking the WI party back.
Personally, I think the activists (as opposed to the Wineke-style hacks) are at the strongest they have been since WWII. Time we get our shit together and take over the goddamn machinery.

My choice of "Northern Rebellion" as a term for us was maybe ill-considered last year because it left out people like ClassWarrior, but it's time to resurrect some LaFollette mojo around here and take over power in our state party.

Up here in the Toolies we got lotsa goddamn LIBERAL sentiment, and we want something meaningful to happen as a result of our putting time into politics. We're not here just to play Whoop-te-Doo chearleaders to some corporate sellouts, be they from Milwaukee, Madison, New York, or Chicago.

I am giving as little as possible to the DPW while still maintaining an activist role on the left around here.

The upshot is that there's a bunch of us that need to talk, and we sorta know who we are. People from Neillsville, Owen, Chioppy Waffles, Marshfield, Green Bay, Milwaukee, and maybe even Madison come to mind.

5. Well I wouldn't spend that kind of money on the DPW either
although I hope to give about that much total to individual candidates this year. Its a shame that there aren't more free events, though. I heard a lot of people at work talking about wanting to see Hillary Clinton on Saturday in Milwaukee- and I went over and broke the news that it was a pricey fundraiser for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

7. with joe w as state party chair you expected something different?
It has always been about the money and will always be about the money.
Democratic ideals are just he product he pushes to get more money.

8. No I didn't expect anything different
At least Hillary Clinton is now doing a free appearance in Madison on Sunday, so regular people can see her if they want to:

Hillary Clinton will be holding a campaign rally at the Monona Terrace on Sunday night. The Mic 92.1 FM just received word of the event this afternoon and they are planning to carry the rally live. Monona Terrace will open at 5p on Sunday with the rally planned for 7p-8:30p.

10. Bill Clinton was in Madison today, but a lot of people
really do want to see Hillary Clinton without dropping a huge pile of cash, so I'm glad she is doing this too. She has Congresswoman Baldwin and Lt. Governor Lawton supporting her here- so even though its a way for people to drive, at least its one big free event for people who want a chance to see her up cloae.

12. In general
politics is all about the money. Look at how much both candidates are raising. I think the $100 is a lot and I cant go, and I wish it were cheaper. But I guess if it helps the state party take back the assembly, then maybe!

14. I don't know very many people who feel they need the DPW
to decide how the money they want to invest in particular Wisconsin candidates should be spent in order to give the Democrats a majority in the Assemby next session. As a matter of fact, many people at Democratic Underground seem to feel quite the opposite. And some of us prefer to invest in Congressional races, which the DPW doesn't contribute to.

If you take a show of hands its hard to find people who contribute to the DPW or for that matter to the DCCC or DNC or other top down-organizations that think they know best. I contribute directly to candidates I know, I volunteer for candidates, and I encourage other people to do the same.

The grassroots knows whats going on.
