the beginning of the end - Librarians demoted
The Marathon County Public Library Board of Trustees voted Monday to eliminate the library's four "librarian 1" positions, one of them vacant, in favor of creating three customer service librarian positions and one lead customer service librarian spot.

The three librarians whose jobs the board cut will be offered the customer service librarian positions, which pay about $10,000 less annually. They also can vie for the lead customer service librarian post, along with external candidates. That job will pay what the librarians currently earn.

Library director Phyllis Christensen said the former director and county leaders had initiated the reorganization. Money saved by Monday's decision will pay for increased health insurance costs.

If you go to the papers blog you'll see just why this countries going in the dumper.

- · General Motors employees are being replaced by new employees earning about 2/3 what former employees earned. They will only have a 401k compared to the previous pension plan and will pay toward their medical benefits.
· Delphi employees share a similar plight.
· Port Edwards paper mill employees are losing their jobs altogether.
· The old “Wausau Ring” factory, whatever it is named now, just accepted a concessionary contract with lower wages.

This is just an example of the few that I am aware of.

BUT, How dare we ask our public employees to do the same and accept lower wages like what is happening in the real world

I can't even begin to say how disgusted I am by this mess. The contempt for public employees is astounding. I also doubt that if these were men that they would have been this drastic.

2. always found it amazing
i suspect public sector employees should just volunteer their time...
by the way, that was sarcastic.

john edwards was right. We have rich folks and we have poor folks.
We used to have folks in the middle, now we increasingly have folks who were in the middle trying to get to the upper, but finding that they are getting sent to the lower.
My ancestors were peasants, guess I will be one too.

Hey if McCain gets in-in a couple of years maybe we will all be illegal immigrants looking for work in mexico.

Damn, I thought I was in a good mood this afternoon.
