Kratz to announce congressional candidacy (WI-6)
Associated Press - March 11, 2008 12:05 PM ET
CHILTON, Wis. (AP) - The special prosecutor in Teresa Halbach's murder is expected to announce his Republican candidacy for the 6th District Congressional seat currently held by Tom Petri (PEE'-treye).

Calumet County District Attorney Ken Kratz scheduled a news conference for later today at his residence in Darboy.

Kratz has filed papers for an exploratory committee with the Federal Elections Commission. The 67-year-old Petri of Fond du Lac has not yet announced whether he'll seek a 16th term. The 6th District covers ten counties, from Appleton to Watertown, and from Lake Michigan to Adams County.

Kratz prosecuted Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey in Halbach's murder. Both are serving life prison sentences.

This is interesting- everybody just assumes Petri is running. He is often unchallenged by either party; maybe this year he will have a challenger from both sides.
