Roessler's (R) retirement leaves open Senate seat in Oshkosh
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 03:27 PM by undeterred
Yesterday State Senator Carol Roessler (R - Oshkosh ) announced that she is not running for re-election this November. This was great news for Oshkosh City Councilwoman Jessica King, who announced in 2007 that she was running for this seat. Open State Senate seats don't come along very often. Open State Senate seats with top-notch Democratic candidates with a history of winning tough elections are even more rare. But that is exactly what has happened.

Jessica King is an at-large member of the Oshkosh City Council and has proven she can govern as well as she can campaign. She is a self-made woman. She put herself through college and law school and built a successful law practice which helps people and small businesses deal with financial troubles. She knows first-hand the struggles that families go through to hold onto a home, save a business or provide for their children. She will take that wisdom to Madison and put it to work for us on the issues we care about.

Running for office is never easy. Asking for money is even harder. Jessica King has worked hard at everything she does, though, and has already raised almost $20,000 for this race. The reality is that she will need ten times that amount! The announcement of Roessler's retirement helped her a bit yesterday but she still needs support from people like you and me, from all across Wisconsin , to win. I hope you will join me today by making a contribution of $100, $60, $35 or whatever you can afford to help send Jessica King to the State Senate. Want to learn more about Jess? Visit her website at www.jesskingforsenate.com to find out more.

Opportunities like this don't come often. Let's not let it pass us by. Please give generously today!

Sincerely,

State Senator Russ Decker

Majority Leader

This could be a big pickup for the Dems and give the Senate a cushion, so give Jessica a donation if you can!

2. Turn up the heat
I wish we were organized enough with jackpineradical's "team" to go in and do a special lit drop or donate a couple of days and a few bucks to the dem seeking that seat.

Oshkosh is tough territory for a Dem but it CAN be done...

Jeff...what about you?

Open Senate seat attracting candidates
Gannett Wisconsin Media

OSHKOSH — The recent announcement by state Sen. Carol Roessler, R-Oshkosh, that she will not seek re-election left an open seat in the 18th Senate District for the first time since 1987.

Three people — Winnebago County Sheriff Michael Brooks and Fond du Lac City Council member Tim Lakin, both Republicans, and Oshkosh Common Councilor Jessica King, a Democrat — have announced plans to seek the seat, but that could change.

"I would not be too surprised to see four or five Republican candidates" and more Democrats, said Jim Simmons, a University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh political science professor.

The district covers Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Waupun and rural parts of Winnebago and Fond du Lac counties.
