Scott Walker still wants to privatize General Mitchell International Airport!

Although the opposition to the idea of privatizing the airport is strong, the efforts to try and make it happen linger on. Please be aware of it, and if you live in Milwaukee County, please tell your county supervisor that you oppose it! (Assuming you do. You are on DU after all...)

You can also write a letter to the Journal Sentinel rejecting the notion. And talk with interested parties about it. It's *our* airport. Leasing it would take away all our control, however limited it may feel to you right now, and put it in the hands of faraway investors who only care about making money, not about how it effects us.

Personally, I think Scott Walker is floating this again to try and distract from the proposed sales tax transit fund. Quick, distract them with a scary thing! That'll get them away long enough that I can kill it!

1. Yes, Walker is a great advocate of buccaneer economics
You know...the county sells off public assets for fractions of their value to Walker's buckos. It doesn't really matter what the asset is from airports to golf courses to public swimming pools, but it is surprisingly often something of value to the working classes.

Generations of social minded Milwaukeans contributed to the development of these public assets and swashbuckling free-marketers just want to pillage and steal them. I am sure that Frank Zeidler and his progressive predecessors would be rolling in their graves.

2. Scott walker
}( }( How does this guy get elected? When I lived in Milwaukee
a few years ago, we knew how to get the good guys in office.
As you say, Zeidler is probably spinning in his grave.I know
people in Milwaukee care about each other, I don't know about
the surrounding areas. How is the mayor doing? I sure miss the
city. But gas being the way it is, I don't get down there as
often as I would like to.
