5. the beauty of Mellencamp isn't entirely in the music
and it's mostly not in the stuff you hear on the radio but he has some wonderful, wonderful lyrics. I tried to find a link to my favorite song but can only find a really shitty cover on youtube, the song is called Another Sunny Day 12/25. Thing I like most about him is that he's the kind of guy I grew up around (lived in Southern Illinois until I was 13) but the idealized liberal version of that guy. If that makes any sense.

7. I love Al and Lucinda.
Being from Austin, I've seen them both, and they were both fabulous. Highly recommended.

Between his Troobs days (True Believers) and his solo career really taking off, Al used to be the warehouse manager at the central/midtown Sound Warehouse, and I was the warehouse gal at the north location, so I had to call him from time to time to see if they had stock on stuff. He also used to work at Waterloo Records with my buddy Helen. Super nice guy.

12. Saw Lucinda headline the Harley stage
with Al opening. He gave a shout out to a buddy's band back in the True Believer days, the Slow Pedestrians from LaCrosse. Saw the Troobs twice, and Rank & File once.

8. RUSH
Saw 'em last Friday. Three (yes THREE!) hour show!

For a band well into their fifties, they're still an amazing trio capable of rocking HARD and they genuinely looked like they (along with the crowd) were having as much fun as 20+ years ago.

And I really dig the lyrics to the song "Far Cry" from their new album "Snakes and Arrows"

"It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
It's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing"
