I just heard from one of my techs that the last Shakey's Pizza is closing!

He said he took his daughter there last night and the sign out front said "Closing Monday". He asked them what's up and they said the health dept came down on them really hard for having so much "outdated" equipment (Note: They passed their inspection. :eyes:) and that they needed to upgrade this and that and electrical and blah blah blah. So I guess they looked into it and they just can't afford to do everything needed. :(

1. Damn...I have a lot of good childhood memories from Shakey's Pizza

I used to watch them toss the pizza dough through the glass. :(

Really great thin crust pizza, delicious mojo potatoes, and weird and annoying table acts roaming the restaurant. I remember one of them was magician named 'Sneaky Pete' who ended up bartending at the Safe House club in Milwaukee many years later.

When I was in college, we used to line my girlfriend's purse with a plastic bag and fill it up with food at their 'Bunch-o-Lunch' buffets...

2. It's one of only about twoor three Shakey's left outside California...

They were supposed to have been remodeled last summer (and the pizza buffet was going away). But they didn't do that - I took the kids there a few weeks ago and was surprised to see that nothing had changed. I guess the decided to close rather than remodel.

Another little piece of our collective childhood fades away...Sigh
