unemployment benefits extended! |
|
Hurray! Now to figure out how to apply for Wisconsin unemployment benefits since we moved back to Illinois. We are supposed to be getting a letter in the mail about this since my husband's benefits ran out in April. We are currently living on whatever we can scrape together and the grace of God so having unemployment extended will help considerably. I am curious though, why is it that Bush all of a sudden has a "change of heart" and signs the extension of unemployment benefits when he refused to do so earlier with the economic stimulus package.

I think the UC extension was put in with a war funding bill. It's campaign time and no one wants to look like they don't support the troops. https://ucclaim-wi.org/InternetInitialClaims/default.asp

https://ucclaim-wi.org/InternetInitialClaims/default.aspThe Republicans wanted to make it conditional on states with higher than 6% unemployment, or give it only people who had worked a certain number of weeks- but I don't think either of those conditions made it through.

My husband called and got signed up again. They said it may take 4 weeks to restart benefits (typical, everything that can help you seems to take 4 weeks to 4 months in Wisconsin! This state holds onto your money longer than anyplace I know. It took 6 weeks just to get his unemployment started in the first place and we just about starved to death!)
