Wisconsin evangelicals abandoning Smirk!
Conflicted Evangelicals Could Cost Bush Votes
Conservative Christians are still in his camp, but some are troubled by Iraq and other issues.

By Peter Wallsten, Times Staff Writer

BROOKFIELD, Wis. — With their ardent, Bible-based opposition to abortion and gay marriage, evangelical Christians are a key target of the massive Republican get-out-the-vote drive heading into next week's election. Party leaders consider conservative Christians to be as near a lock for President Bush as any group can be.

But GOP strategists might want to have a chat with Tim Moore, an evangelical who teaches civics at a traditional Christian school near Milwaukee. He shares Bush's religious convictions, but says the president has lost his vote because of tax cuts for the wealthy and the administration's shifting rationales for invading Iraq.

1. And some people said I was nuts
when I said this was gonna happen six months ago

:-)

No, not gloating, I am glad I have read this correctly.

We may see the religious base stay home and this happens, Bush is far more than just toast

2. Here in AR,
they are pushing the anti-gay marriage amendment big time. The repuke senate candidate is a one note Johnny when it comes to this, and it hasn't impressed many, including the AR Dem-Gazette, a conservative rag that destroyed the venerable old Gazette, which was a decent paper. Anyway, the DG endorsed the Dem, Blanche Lincoln.

Dems in NW AR are watching in awe as the incumbant Congressman, John Boozman, screams about the same thing. Apparently he hopes that that will keep his constituent's minds off the fact he's done nothing except vote in Bush's and Wal-Mart's interests, and not those of the people. Our Dem candidate, Jan Judy, is giving him a run for the money by pointing this out.
