Madison - Military Families for Peace Meeting NOT just for |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 01:59 PM by Vote_Clark_In_WI
military families!!!
If you can make it, please come tonight to the meeting. This group was started by my friend Jane, who is one of the Sisters Speak Out women. Her son is a Blackhawk Commander currently in Iraq. The meetings are typically very small and casual, but I see this as a great way to put our energies into a positive cause while we're still reeling and trying to sort our our strategies.
The meeting is at 6:30 tonight at Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ, 1501 Gilbert Rd. in Madison. If you need directions, pm me.
I am not from a military family (though my husband is a vet - does that count?), but obviously we all know how important it is to continue to support the young men and women who are sacrificing their lives in this unjust war. Jane put everything in her life on hold to work to get Kerry elected, and I am anxious to find out what she sees as the role for her group and for us in the coming months and years.
And as a side note to those few people who have posted that they no longer support the troops, because the troops voted for bush, I hope you will be willing to reconsider. I know that MANY of the troops were directed to vote IN FRONT OF THEIR COMMANDING OFFICERS!!! and they were not free to vote as they chose.

The next meeting is this coming Thursday, same time and location as last Thursday's. Let's keep in contact, because I want to go, and I would love to meet you there.
I ended up not being able to go last Thursday because of a family emergency (freeper brother-in-law in the hospital with heart problem, and I TRIED not to think that it served him right), but I saw Jane (the woman who started the group) yesterday at the Peace March, and she said that this coming Thursday they'll be packing up Christmas stockings that will be sent to members of her son's unit in Iraq.
Let me know if you think you can go!

3. Hello again - meeting has been changed |
|
This week's (11/11) meeting has been changed to next Wednesday, 11/17. This will enable them to finish gathering the supplies for the stockings that they are sending to the troops.
Please PM me if you want further information.
