Madison - Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager was treated for breast cancer Friday at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Lautenschlager is among 213,910 women in the United States who will develop breast cancer in 2004, according to projections by the American Cancer Society. After skin cancer, it is the most common type of cancer to affect American women. If the cancer does not spread beyond the breast, the survival rate is 97% five years after diagnosis

She 'came out' a couple of weeks ago when she decided not wear a wig. I'm not sure when she started the therapy, but I got the impression it was fairly recent.

7. I had heard she had breast cancer

but it was still a shock to see her. It seems the diagnosis came shortly after she had the drunk driving incident. Rough year for her.
