For those of you in the 53rd Assembly District
and represented by Carol Owens...

(Which includes the following communities: Algoma, Omro, Rushford, Nepeuskun, Utica, Black Wolf, City of Oshkosh, City of Omro, Rosendale, Springvale, Lamartine, Fond du Lac, Empire, Oakfield, Byron, Village of Oakfield, Village of Rosendale, City of Waupun)

Release from LuAnn Bird's Campaign:

Hello Friends,

Many new people are signing on to our campaign. Yesterday I recruited three new endorsements from the Oshkosh area along with several people willing to work behind the scenes including a long time local government official who is a Republican. I cannot reveal the name but this person will publicly endorse my candidacy if he/she decides not to run again.

Last week Laura DeGolier, a long time political activist from Fond du Lac hosted a wonderful lunch with some women from Oakfield, Donna Boelk and Beatrice Geistardt. We covered many issues including the protection of the Niagara Escarpment in Oakfield! Many thanks to Laura for setting this up!

Let me know if you would be willing to host a small get together.
The thunderstorm that hit right when our party started in Oakfield last Tuesday did not dampen our spirits! We had a small but very enthusiastic crowd at our announcement party. Thanks to those of you who braved the inclement weather!

Nominations papers are out. Again, thanks to all of you who are
volunteering your time to sign people up. These are due back to my house by July 6th so we can copy them and turn them in.
Phil continues to amaze me. How lucky I am to have such a supportive
husband. He is going door to door in our neighborhood, in spite of his two broken legs, and already has collected over 40 signatures. As he was preparing supper for our family the other night, he reminded us that, "Behind every successful women there is a great man!" This week I am working with some excellent PR people who are helping develop our website and printed materials. The one word that describes my campaign is "voice."

My diverse background has prepared me to be your voice.

-Your voice on jobs creation - want jobs in Wisconsin when our children graduate from college, I have one in college, one in high school

-Your voice on education - past school board president

-Your voice on health care - uninsurable disabled husband, spent many hours in hospitals and clinics

-Your voice on veterans' issues - veteran's wife

-Your voice for the disabled - paraplegic husband

-Your voice on women's issues - currently serve on Barbara Lawton's task force working to improve the status of women

-Your voice on local government - past sanitary district commissioner
spearheaded the installation of sewer

Growing jobs and the economy, revamping funding of public education, making health care affordable, and reforming the financing of campaigns seem to be the top issues. My League background must be shining through because I find myself reminding people that it is "our" government and we have the power to make it work us! I am so grateful for this opportunity to run a campaign grounded in the true principles of our representative democracy.

In order to run our campaign of hope, we do need money. Our goal is to raise $50,000. Contributions of all sizes are greatly appreciated.
