Friday Night DU Gathering at State Convention (Oshkosh)
OK, folks... I'm not attending the convention, but I have had my arm twisted to organize the meet-up on Friday night. (not really, but doesn't that sound kind of humble?) Because I'm not going to be bored to death, um, I mean, inspired by all the politics, I don't know what your schedule looks like.

Here's what I have so far:

Friday night (yes - THIS Friday!)
Peabody's (need address & phone, if anyone's got it)

Here's what I need:
Address & phone for Peabody's
Time?
and most importantly: Who's in?
(I'd like to give them an approximate number. 5? 10? 50? more?)

Also, feel free to invite friends, spouses, and any men over 40 who are single (for me).

2. I will be there with MadAsHell
As soon as we work our way through the Feingold and Kennedy hospitality suites.

If we can snag one or two more, we may, but most of our fellow delegates who can still stay awake past 10pm can't make it to the convention this year.

4. Peabody's Ale House is at 544 N. Main Street...
...just a few blocks north of the convention site. (920) 235-4004.

Most convention-goers, if they want to stay for the hospitalities (gotta have Mrs. Feingold's sloppy joes!), will be arriving at Peabody's at 10 at the earliest. If they want to skip Bayh's speach (like ewagner hinted), they'll arrive earlier.

Count CW + 1.

6. I'm planning on meeting you there RevCheesehead. I haven't
preregistered for the convention, although I still hope to catch some of it in the afternoon. I would like to head over to Peabody's that evening, maybe around 8pm or so. :hi: :loveya:  :pals: :woohoo:

9. How can we meet where we know where the other DUers are?
Last year Dying Eagle and I looked for the DUers at the Doyle Hosp. Suite and we couldn't find anybody. Granted Peabody's is a bit smaller and should be easier to find people but it would be nice if there were a uniform way to find everyone...

Also, is anyone sticking around for a Hospitality Suite?

I know sitting through Bayh is torture but I always liked the Hospitality Suites afterwards.

10. Look for the Rev's Cheesehead with the DU sticker.
I'm sticking around for a hospitality or two, as long as Bayh doesn't put me into a coma first.

16. You tell me, since I don't have a schedule.
Ralps said she'd be there around 8 pm, and that sounds good to me. But if anyone wants to come earlier, let me know so I can call Peabody's and make arrangements.

23. OK - here's what I got from Peabody's
They do not have a private room or area.
They "are not an eating place." (no big deal)
On Friday night they're having "a Punk-Rock thing" which begins at 10 pm, and it might get pretty loud.

They do not take reservations - it's whenever you show up.

Any thoughts on this? I'm thinking the band would make any good conversation difficult, but they don't begin until 10. Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

24. This is what secretdj posted on an old thread...
No seperate rooms but if it's a smaller group Peabody's is more laid back and there are booths that allow some private conversation. The crowd trends toward the more liberal minded and is the place Democrats gather to watch election returns.

Oblios is a little louder with out much privacy, though there are more beers on tap and the owners donate to Dem candidates.

What do you all think? I say since it's the 11th hour, let's just go with Peabody's and see how it goes. If we have to move to Oblio's, it's just a block down the street:

Oblios
434 N.Main Street
(920) 426-1063

25. If there's a band...
I would suggest monopolizing the pool table area (at either Peabody's or Oblio's). Those areas are as close as you're going to get to a seperate room.

At Peabody's the pool table is the furthest away from where the band would play as possible and it's near the back door. Quite a few people step out that back door if they need to converse. (If I knew the band name I could tell you if they're worth seeing).

Since college is out the annoying frat kids are gone and the summer crowd tends to be cool and laid back at both venues.

26. Now that's what I like to hear!
A pool table AND a lack of annoying frat kids! :)

The woman I spoke with didn't know the name of the band, and didn't give specifics when I asked. I told her we'd probably have 15-20 people.

I agree with CW - let's go with Peabody's as planned, and if we need to move on later (once the band begins), we can.

Ed, you're going to have to order out for that pizza you wanted. :(

to the convention?

My habit when engaging in political activities is to wear a coat and tie......is that standard men's attire for the convention or is it more casual?

32. I've seen everything from jeans to business casual to fancy pants
Friday's a short convention day and usually when the higher eschelon of speakers is there. I prefer business casual, which I wouldn't imagine includes a tie, but really it's whatever you're comfortable in.

Saturday you'll see basically the same range in attire, but I'm usually in jeans and a political t-shirt because the day is longer and I want to be more comfortable.

You'll wanna be comfortable. It's not like RetroLounge will be there or anything.

I may change my mind yet and go casual. Who wants to get all gussied up and then spend 2 hours in a car? I'm starting to think jeans and my Political Prisoner in Training t-shirt (see my avatar) would be more practical.
