Convention Reports - Delegates Check In |
|
Sybylla posting as MadAsHell cuz we're in a hotel and his laptop is all I have.
Share your thoughts on the convention, the speakers or whatever.
I thought the Friday night speakers were awesome, generally. Though I didn't hang around for Evan Bayh.
Feingold kicked butt, calling it like he sees it as always. He refered to the judicial "compromise" as the equivalent of having a thief hold a gun to your throat demanding $1000 and you ask if $800 would be enough. He pointed out that Clinton spoke at Wisconsin's 1987 convention and suggested that perhaps this year, a future Democratic President might be speaking at the convention. He hinted it might be Evan Bayh but it didn't take long for the audience to grasp the subtle suggestion that it could also be him. He got a standing ovation at that.
Lautenschlager convinced me she can handle the negative campaigning of pukes. She gave an excellent speech totally defusing her critics, including me. And I told her so at her hospitality suite afterwards.
Obey, our fabulous appropriations guru, kicked the pukes in the teeth over the latest budget shenanigans as well as the pukes general arrogance. He said he will be toasting Mark Feldt tonight for reminding people of the importance of honesty and openness in government at this time in history.
There may be a rising star running for office in the open 8th CD race. Jamie Wall looks very impressive. Though his delivery could use a little polish,I look forward to the possibilities there. He's a little young but he definitely has it more together than many older candidates. He even seemed to catch Dave Obey's eye.
Tammy Baldwin gave a great speech about her disappointment after the loss of the presidency November election and how she has hope for the future. Others might remember more about what she said. I didn't take notes.
Kohl and Doyle will be speaking Saturday.
Though I don't think this convention has the fire of the past two, being an off election year, I still feel a momentum in the air. We haven't lost it. I'm beginning to think great things are ahead of us in 2006. We have a good shot at gaining at least one congressional seat. And statewide, I think we can pick up several seats in both houses. I think the momentum is building, but maybe that's just the three beers I had at the Distillery Pub. :toast:

Excellent speeches by Herb Kohl, Gwen Moore, Barb Lawton and Gov. Doyle.
I'm too tired to say much else. Stayed up too late last night for the meet-up boozing with my buds and my brain isn't working the best.
Perhaps someone else can kick in their thoughts on today's convention events.

5. That pretty much says it for me too. |

He gave one of the most insubstantial political speeches I ever heard. You know--all those Senator Foghorn Leghorn cliches and how he met Harry Truman & went to the bathroom with him. I guess he didn't want to talk about stuff like war authorization votes or where the DLC gets its $$. Who picked this guy, anyway? There was sure a stark contrast between Bayh & Feingold--between Bayh & ANY of the WI politicos, actually. Our people do substance.
