Rep. David Obey gave a very heartfelt speech today at Gov./Sen. Gaylord Nelson's memorial service in the State Capitol Rotunda. Obey said if Nelson was with us there today, this is what he'd have told us.

1. I would have loved to hear that speech

Dave Obey can be very passionate and very plain spoken, especially in his grief.

I imagine they were very powerful words.

4. Caught it last night on WPT

I only heard parts of the whole ceremony, but I was fortunate enough to catch Dave Obey's speech and, of course his harmonica playing Amazing Grace at the end. (At least I think it was amazing grace, I was half asleep by then - it being nearly midnight.)

6. Dave's not my congressman. We live 1 mile from his district border

Ron Kind is our congresscritter. He's a DLCer and nowhere near the "blessing" that Dave is but very left on several issues that are important to me so most of the time I cut him some slack. Plus his wife absolutely kicks ass (in a good way) so he can't be all that bad.

The good thing is that Clark County is a two district county - both in the 3rd CD (Kind) and the 7th CD (Obey) so I get to see Dave at county political functions at least once a year.

MAH and I are doing fine. I'm wishing for rain - not to the point of dancing naked in the moonlight yet but you all better start praying (if that's what you do). And I'm very much enjoying the smell of burnt Pillsbury Roveboy. Since I've thought we had these bastards cornered several times in the past five years, I can't help but worry they'll manage to turn the tables before it's all done. But Roveboy is smelling pretty done. At the very least, I hope he comes out of this seriously discredited if not in chains.

On a personal note, I had a job interview today. Economy is not what it used to be and we need a steadier income than our business has been able to produce. I'm kind of looking forward to a new, more reliable way of making a living but that probably means very little time for DU or even political activism for awhile. We'll see.
