Shameless, Self-Congratulatory Post
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 10:39 PM by Jeff In Milwaukee
I moved to Wisconsin three months ago from Springfield Township, which is a mostly white, mostly Republican suburb of Cincinnati. I was the Democratic Party Ward Chairman there, responsible for 49 precincts with about 25,000 registered voters. If I can blow my own horn, I made a lot of changes as Ward Chair and did a lot of organizing and outreach.

A Republican friend of mine (I have a couple, you know) told me that he was at the Springfield Township Republican Party meeting last week, and apparently it was reported to the great satisfaction of the assembled ditto-heads that I had left the state. They said that they were glad that I was gone because I was stirring things up too much.

Stop it. I'm blushing!

3. I've taken a one-year vow of political celibacy...
while we get the kids adjusted to their new life here in Wisconsin. But that doesn't mean I won't be doing some back-burner organizing when the Missus isn't looking. Sounds almost dirty, doesn't it?

If you know Democrats in Brookfield, PM me and I'll pass along my e-mail address. I'd like to make contact with them.

I figure the one-year moratorium will be over in time to help Bryan Kennedy in 2006!

4. Are you settled in Brookfield, then?
Dems in Brookfield... hmmm... rare breed. I am in Menononee Falls, town just North of you. Not many here, either.

Well, if you can write LTTE's you can let Russ and Herb know how you feel about Oral, I mean John Roberts, right?

Have you taken in the lakefront festivals yet? Festa Italiana is this weekend!!

7. It's a long-term process...

You just keep organizing. Keep making contacts. It's a backyard cookout here, a fund-raising dinner there. It's e-mails and postcards and phone calls over the course of several years.

And it's lots of shoe-leather.

For the past several generations, Hamilton County (Cincinnati) was a Republican bastion in Ohio. The political calculus was that as a Republican, you ran up the score in Hamilton County to offset heavily Democratic Cuyahoga County. In the last election, Bush won Hamilton County, but only by only 25,000 votes.

While Bush eventually did win Ohio, we've taken the easy votes (in high-density urban areas) away and they now must get votes in the four-county rural/suburban ring. Political organizing is much harder there, but when Democrats have consolidated their position in Hamilton County, they're going to work on those counties, too.

Given that Republicans control every statewide office in Ohio, it would nearly impossible for an incumbent President not to win the state, but we made it difficult as hell for them. And now that Ohio is about to fall into Democratic hands (a generation of Republican misrule and corruption will do that), the 2008 Election will have a different outcome. Bank on it.

We can do the same in Waukesha County.

Oh Edit: Went to Greek Festival two weeks ago and had a great time and a gyro as big as your head. I plan to hit some lakefront festivals later this summer.

:applause: :applause: :applause:

Here's a welcome :hi: :hi: :hi: just in case I forgot the first time.

My hope is that after the "moritorium" the repubs in your community will be wondering what the hell hit them.
