Rain prompts evacuation alert in North Vancouver

The District of North Vancouver has issued an evacuation alert covering hundreds of residents.

Officials in the area are hand delivering notices to homes in the area advising residents to prepare for a possible evacuation by contacting family members, making arrangements for pets, gathering necessary medications and being ready to leave their home if an evacuation order is issued.

But for the moment, it's just a precautionary measure, the district's website emphasizes.

The evacuation alert covers 296 homes and between 900 and 1,000 people, Mayor Richard Walton told a news conference Thursday.
