Looks like Keith Martin (L) in Esquimalt/Juan de Fuica and Denise Savoie (NDP) for Victoria/Capitol Region.
This makes me particularly as many people thought Esquimalt would go to the Cons because 25% of constituents are employed by the Forces.
And I missed my vote, because I was stuck on a late ferry. If Savoie had lost by a vote, I'd be kicking myself.

2. Saanich/Islands went Conservative. |
|
No surprise there, though. Saanich alwas votes right regionally and Provincially.
Rich old people... they don't need a social safety net. They have one Bruno Maalik golf cleat in the grave already.

7. Gary Lunn's lead narrowed -- and the NDP improved to 2nd place |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 05:50 PM by Lisa
In 2004, the split was 22050 for Lunn (Con), to 13763 for Burgis (NDP).
This time around it was 24416 for Lunn, and 17455 for Burgis. Also I heard that Sheila Orr (who replaced David Mulroney as the Liberal candidate) made an announcement that she would be quitting politics. (She was with the BC Liberals but lost her seat in the last election.)
The day is kind of a blur for me, since I had to get up before dawn to get to the polling station before it opened, and was inside the whole day until after the count. So I didn't know how things had gone until afterwards. Many of the parts of Saanich/Gulf Island which are adjacent to Victoria have poor and/or young people (e.g. UVic and Camosun students), so there are certain polls which go consistently for the NDP.
p.s. one thing I noticed was that the Conservatives didn't have many people at that particular station. So they don't have an infinite amount of resources (even though it may feel like that at times) if they felt they could afford to ignore a pretty highly-populated area like that.
If they can't be bothered -- well, there are other parties who do care!

4. North Island squeaked by, too. |
|
Finally kicked out our incumbent, who can't believe he's "not on the bus" back to Ottawa, given all of his qualifications, blah, blah, blah. (He sounded a little bitter.)
Only Nanaimo-Alberni fell for the conservative lines, I think.

On both the candidate of your riding winning and the fact that you live in a beautiful part of B.C. as well as Canada. I was there 3 years ago and the Tofino area. You are fortunate to be around such natural beauty!
