Harper looks forward to "rebuilding" Canada? |
|
Anyone catch that today?
Gee........wonder if anyone in the media will ask him what he means by that?
Thought not.

35. Anyone see Duffy's show: He said he had emails re Harper shaking hands |
|
with his children, rather than hugging or kissing them. Duffy made a deal of it being petty. You can bet that Duffy also received emails about Harper evading the ehtics commissioner for a month, which is a serious matter, since he is going to "make government accountable" but Duffy sure didn't mention that!...What a fraud he is....

It was one of the first things my (con-leaning, Harper loving) dh and I noticed, we were like, wtf???? Being the parents of 3 small kids, we cannot imagine not hugging our kids as we drop them off to school. We were totally astounded that he shook his kids hands. IMO it says a LOT. How one deals and acts around one's children is very important in my book.

8. Every things perfect ? |
|
I cant believe that some here don't think there are many many things that need attention from the government . There is so much waste in some areas that it borders on criminal . I contract work sometimes from the government for First Nations and I would estimate the waste averages about 1 in 2 dollars . Just think if they could eliminate half of the waste in this department it would equal a 25 % increase in spending .

Where on earth did you get from my post that everything's perfect?!?
Harpy is echoing *'s buzzwords...here's the latest.
It's a matter of degree...something needing attention, and something needing rebuilding, are two very different things.
Do you honestly think the country needs rebuilding??

|
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 06:15 PM by glarius
and that could be his undoing....Everything that has gone B/H (before Harper) is up for revision at the very least. Notice how even his manner of having a press conference is not the way of the past. What we saw today was a White House look-alike. He appeared and disappeared into the parliamentary backdrop which looked very much like Bush when he has his press conferences at the White House....His insistance on doing everything his way may be what trips him up...

He walked them up to the gateway to their school and then shook hands with first the little girl and then the little boy! Can you imagine? A father with small children that shakes hands rather than gives them a kiss, or even a hug?....He's a very weird guy.

My dh, who actually likes Harper (even though he occasionally pops in here at DU) audibly gasped when he saw that video. It was very bizarre. See, we have small children and it's second nature to hug them as we drop them off. As do all the other parents dropping off their children. Can't say I've ever seen any of them shake hands with their kids.

There's something beyond weird about that man. Walks his kids to school no doubt only for the benefit of the cameras, then shakes their hands? Little kids? He obviously doesn't know how to relate to his own children.
If he had hugged and kissed his kids, don't you think that the adoring media would have played it?

Working mothers are selfish, bad parents, etc. Conservatives, usually guys who have never lifted a finger raising their own kids, want extra tax breaks for themselves because their wives or girlfriends stay home with the kids. Oh, THEY are great parents because THEY don't let the state raise their kids. :eyes: You just have to listen to the rantings of a few to get a really bad taste in your mouth. :(
Let these Conservative guys get a taste of their own medicine.

But I will never miss a chance to put Harper down...I can't stand the man. I believe he is a complete fraud. He is 46 years old and wants us to believe that in the last year he has "evolved" from a right-wing zealot to a middle of the roader. Gimme a break. He said whatever he thought would sell him to the public in whatever part of the country he was in at the time. He's so wily that he was able to pull it off, but there are still some of us out here who didn't buy his act....

Harper is fair game, but try to be a little more objective in your criticism.
I happened to vote conservative this time, though it didn't matter in my riding. I tend to be socially liberal. My wife and I both work and we both plan to continue working once my wife's maternity leave ends (we're expecting a baby in 5 weeks). Not all people who voted Conservative are evil beasts. I personally felt the Liberals didn't deserve my vote and the NDP are all about gov't control over every aspect of our lives, so they're way too far to the left for me.
Given that Harper has very little room to do any real damage, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt this time. I think the election results were the ideal outcome.
Most Canadian "conservatives" would still be considered liberals in the USA. Maybe that's why monkeybumper and I are on this forum? BTW, I was against the war in Iraq and I'm not particularly religious, just in case you thought I was some right-wing fundamentalist type.
Why bother having a forum if everyone is just patting each other on the back? This world would be pretty damn boring if we were programmed to tow the socialist line. Cheers, and try to be a little more tolerant next time.

And they have nothing to do with the poster you're lecturing here. They have to do with a complete lack of objectivity in the criticism of the poster you defend.
I do agree with your assessment of Canadian vs. American concepts of conservatism and liberalism.;-)

Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 07:36 PM by glarius
I believe he is a right wing extremist who has managed to persuade Canadians, who were looking for a change, that he is a middle of the roader, because he knows that's the only way he could sell himself to us. He cannily went into every part of Canada and told Canadians what they wanted to hear; not what he believed himself, but what he knew they wanted to hear. He told Quebec he would give them the right to represent themselves abroad almost as a separate country. I believe that is mainly why he got support in Quebec. I have read the insulting things he said about Canada to the right-wing American group. He also went on Fox TV and apologized on behalf of Canadians because we weren't in the Iraq war! How dare he! He had no right to speak for Canadians!...Just watching him operate I find him to be deceitful (all his talk about accountability yet he refused to talk to the ethics commissioner re the Grewal taping deal) and a control freak. He thinks he's going to "rebuild" Canada? What gives him that right?....As I said, I don't like him and it gives me satisfaction to slam him whenever I feel like it. :)

43. "I think he is a fraud" close glarius, but I KNOW he is a fraud |
|
. . .
Stevie Baby would like to see Canada as USA "lite" - or even more likely just another state of the "Union"
but that will never happen
as a group - us Canuks are not favorably impressed with the USSA
and "harping" (pun intended) on our non-support of the USA's illegal and immoral invasion and occupation of other sovereign nations kept the Conservatives from getting a majority, and will defeat them in the next election, which will be very soon.
I'd be surprised to see Harper's government stay in power for even 2 years - - less, hopefully
But H is a slimy bastard, just like ur pResident - - so I just dunno
