2. Frank (Carlyle Group) McKenna will take the Libs down in flames
if he wins. Why would Canadians vote for a Canadian who belongs to a secretive US defense company that, so it can be said, once they have you they own you for life. Papa Bush, James Baker III, John Major, hmmmmmm, I don't think those are liberal names McKenna is pals with.

3. He's the favourite son now of "Team Martin"
and I have the feeling it's his for the taking. Though Allan Rock could give him a good run from the left-wing of the Liberal Party.

I don't think his Carlyle links will hurt him. Those who would be bothered by them already know of them, and there will always be more many more people who say "Carlyle who?"

4. Even disregarding the Carlyle thing, I can't see it
Ex-provincial premiers don't have a great track record in leading federal parties. They usually don't have all that much support in their home province by the time they are out of provincial politics, and people in other provinces are not that impressed by ex-premiers of other provinces (or current premiers for that matter).

5. True but the other 'contenders'...
...John Manley, famous for his pro-US integration views, and Michael Ignatiff famous for his, as Minstrel Boy puts it, Torrturiffic views, aren't very pleasant either.

8. Some pundit or other
when speculating about the Liberal leadership compared Michael Ignatiff to Pierre Trudeau, going on about his charisma; although they did mention his backing the missile defence and Iraq war which was totally against Trudeau's views. However, it made me suspect that he is the anointed one.

I forget what network though it was probably CBC because that's who I usually listen to.

7. Yup...

The Tories might be able to run a MacKay or Lord...but the Liberals have no history of running a Premier for office or even nominating one.

I am certain the open-minded, fair and just Liberal supporters that usually operate the various Liberal Leadership campaigns in the past will continue to pledge their undying belief in a good clean contest and let McKenna stand on his merits.

Oh I am also certain that the price of oil will drop to $20 a barrel, Brad and Jen will get back together and the cure for cancer will be as cheap and as simple as buying a pack of gum

...those are my predictions for The Year of the Dogs
