New rule: The only way to sit as a Liberal/Cons./NDP/Bloc MP...
...is to win the most votes in a general election or by-election, in your riding. Period. Full stop. End of story.

You wanna switch your affiliation? Upon you making your decision official, a by-election is immediately called, and you run for the seat again under a different political banner, or as an independent if you wish. Let your constituents decide if they agree with you, or if they don't.

1. What stops
some one from just voting with the other party on everything an being appointed to their cabinet while officially not leaving their former party?

2. I felt it was okay when Conservatives defected..
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 09:06 PM by Posteritatis
..And I'm going to continue to feel defections are okay now, whether or not I agree with any particular choice. I don't like hypocrisy, so I'm not going to start practicing it.

This sort of thing happens; Harper still has a weak-assed minority. If Emerson made the wrong choice in the eyes of his constituents, he'll get stomped accordingly at the polls.

6. Strategic Voting....
...should I have voted "Strategically" to keep the Conservatives out, by voting Liberal. So the Conseratives wouldn't have won the seat, but not only that possibly less seats than the Liberals therefore keeping them out of 24 Sussex as well? Even though had I done that I would've gotten a Conservative two short weeks later?
