A private medical clinic in Calgary has opened its doors offering unique "concierge" services – essentially 24-hour, reduced wait time access to a doctor.
For approximately $3,500 a year, the facility guarantees customers access to a doctor in less time than the public system.
Dr. Kim Wilmot, who came up with the "concierge" concept, argues that the service does not detract from the public system because it ultimately doesn't affect a person's chance of seeing a doctor.
"You will get the care, but it may not be absolute convenient care but nevertheless, you are going to get looked after, and that's important," said Wilmot.
