Emerson to apologize to constituents
OTTAWA — Trade Minister David Emerson admits he was politically naive in not anticipating the firestorm that was sparked by his switch from the federal Liberals to the Conservatives.

"The truth of the matter is, when I came into politics I came in as a Paul Martin Liberal, I was not a political person," Emerson told CTV's Question Period on Sunday.

"I'm still not much of a political person, as perhaps you can now tell . . . . I'm not the sharpest political knife in the drawer, I quite freely admit that."

Emerson said he'll be sending a letter to constituents in his Vancouver Kingsway riding, apologizing to anybody who took offence at this decision to abandon the Liberals and join Stephen Harper's new Tory government.

1. Geez, this guy just reeks of sleaze, imo, by his responses
Naive, like hell, opportunistic is more like it. He, arrogantly, thought he could do what he did and his constituents would just accept it. That is not naivety it is pure arrogance, imo.

2. Arrogant ass
What does he think that his constituents are going to go "Ah, well, at least you're finally being polite about it, we forgive you!"

Dammit, I don't understand why turncoats are obligated to run again, this really stinks.

3. Liar...
Politically naive...no way.

Doesn't really give a shit what the 'little' people think--Yup...thinks the public are a nuisance and so long as he has the approval of elites, that's the only thing that counts.

4. So he will waste taxpayer's money on an insincere apology
I am sure that won't go over too well.

5. Not enough - you can't steal something and say sorry
Without giving it back.

6. Long time no see, HH.
Between your absence and CanuckAmok's, the Canadian contingent's gotten weaker lately in the Lounge.

7. Nice thought...
...but the whole reason behind it, protecticting corporate BC intrests, at the expense of the average persons democratic rights, isn't particularly impressive.

8. Good way of framing it...
You should send it to the de-elect Emerson campaign.

10. Hmm...
...thanks, maybe I should.

If I had more time, since its my riding and all, I'd volunteer for them, or something. I need to check out what they're doing, substantivley. Unfortunatley all these public meetings so far, have been when I was at work or school!
