I'm really kind of disgusted with the way a lot of people in this forum are dumping all over team Canada (and team U.S.A.)! Team Canada has lost. They just didn't come together as a team, for whatever reason. I've never seen this happen with a Canadian team before but it had to happen sooner or later. Who knows why, but that doesn't mean they didn't try or don't care. I feel sorry for the team and Gretzky. They don't deserve some of the vile remarks being thrown at them. I'm very disappointed they lost to the Russians, but it's not the end of the world. The Russians weren't able to score until a power play goal in the 3rd period either, don't forget. They're not all that great and I'll bet they'll be beaten by Finland on Friday. I hope so anyway.

1. Even they are saying they didn't play up to snuff
They were never able to get it together for some reason. We can't win them all and we didn't deserve to win this time. Time to regroup and work toward 2010 on OUR home turf!

4. Why can't we dump on them?
WTF?

They didn't even make it to the medal round for chrissakes--I AM going to dump on them, because they got NO excuse.

They're goal output was laughable and embarassing and the ONLY thing that gave them any dignity was Brodeur...

They were miserable--end of story.

5. If it makes you feel better go ahead!

When athletes represent their country, I don't find it embarrassing or laughable if they fail in the effort. By the way, your spelling leaves room for improvement. "They're goal" should be "Their goal" and the correct spelling is "embarrassing."....Also you should have said, "they've got no excuse." You're welcome :)

6. I just hate waiting
for the spell checker and besides, checkers miss things like 'we've' or 'they're' anyhow, so I will just wing it... ;-)

BUT BUT...how exactly does this 'athletes representing their country', mitigate criticism of their performance?

It's not like these are kids in a school talent show, you know?

Surely you are not suggesting that some crude appeal to patriotism is sufficient reason to avoid genuine criticism, are you?

8. See Swede's answer #7
Calling them laughable and embarrassing is not my idea of genuine criticism. Also, if you're willing to dish out criticism you should be willing to take it, re your spelling and grammer.....IMO...:)

9. It's not shame, its just a collossal letdown.

At least there was only 2 working days before the weekend to get over it, the general malaise of 33 million people could impact our GDP or something.

I'll selfishly throw my lot in with your Sweden now though, a Gold medal could take the Sedin's up to the next level right before the Cup run.

10. The Russians didn't look so great today did they?
I never thought they were that great anyway. They only scored one goal against Canada, in the third period on a power play and then that garbage goal right at the end of the game. Finland looks great and I'm rooting for them to win the gold.

11. Finland beat the Russians?
There'll be some car door slamming the streets of Thunder Bay tonight.

(Thunder Bay has one of the biggest concentrations of Finnish immigrants in North America).

12. Yes, 4-0.
And the Swedes thrashed the Czech's 7-3 in the other semi-final.

I'm betting Scandanavia would be a pretty swell place to party this weekend.
